本人生物PhD已经4年，学校二流，老板没钱没品，对生物彻底失去兴趣，不想死吊在这
棵树上。虽然已经过了qualify，再有一年就可毕业，但是真的是一点也不想干了。
2008春季开始修了一些统计的课程，然后秋季正式被统计接受，读non-thesis的master
。生物老板那里死活不同意我选统计的课，说必须写完论文。我这里问题是拿得统计的
奖学金，不可能不修课。如果这个学期不修课，那么这些统计学位要求的课程就得拖到
明年秋季。我想统计这里尽早毕业，好去工作，赚钱养家，老大不小了。所以最好还是
这个学期选课，明年春季再有一学期，就可以修完统计学位要求的课程了。因为我的兴
趣在精算，7月份考过了P，想今年11月份再考FM，理想中明年暑假有intern做，然后尽
早找到工作，学统计是想统计的学位应该比生物对找精算工作更有帮助吧。实在找不到
精算工作，退一步还可以找统计嘛。
所以，不想让生物那里耽误我统计这里的进程，再则，生物那里如果想拿PhD，至少还
得全力以赴两个学期才可毕业。我现在身在统计，选3门大课，又有精算考试在身，完
全没有时间兼顾生物。不得已想到了退出，生物PhD不 |

Yes, Bio PhD not equals higher working capability in actuary. But in the
long run, how the Bio PhD degree will affect your career? |

发帖数: 612 | 7 Trust me. I am in a group that requires advanced degree. But maybe only 1
out of 10 phd worth his/her degree. Others are way over qualified. I am
talking about PHD with close related major. Not even the biology/chemistry
etc. |

actuarial students with a phd degree who failed actuarial exams a few times.
It's tough!!!
And they are both mathematical or engineering background... |

Actuary. Thank you all!
What I am thinking is, when I have interview, people might ask why I spent
four years to get a master? It will be an awkward question.
Ps, if I want to have an interview in next Summer, when should I start to
apply? |

I once had a phone interview with someone from a consulting company, and he
was studying PhD in Geophysics for 4 years or so, but eventually quit and
started an actuarial career, and he just simply said he found it more
interesting. I think you can just say the same thing and maybe elaborate a
bit, no need to come up with anything fancy

标准，做的大概是统计方面的工作。 |

用的。至少我不觉得这个degree是完全useless,很多事情没有这么绝对。 |

可是，我现在的情况是，第一，没有时间；第二，一点也不想干；第三，学校的cpt必
须要找和最高学位相关的intern，我必须尽早脱离生物。
有舍才有得，算了，真的不想再做学生了 |
