How would the visa interviewer know I dropped out of the Ph.D program
in China? How can I make this history unknown to him/her?

BTW. How many year have you been in your ph.d program? If it is
not your first year, I think it is a bad idea to drop.
My experience,
1. Since you join the Ph.d program, you are pretty much a research-
oriented person, so you will be uncomfortable to get a MS degree here
and go out to work.
2. Then you may study for your ph.d again. It takes 4-5 years and it
is
kind of waste of time ( and money), except you are in a top-10
university.

come to usa ASAP is most important if your dream is USA. What is the
use of phd in china? do you think it good to be a postdoc in USA no
mention its much more difficulty in application and staying longer.
give up phd in china, go to usa, transfer to cs (if you are not in
currently), get a master degree (who cares the degree), find a job,
apply for GC, get GC, then? be a programmer in your whole life and
have as many kids as you want. You may be rich in the s

wants to be a programmer in lifetime, do it. But don't put
too much on stock and early-retirement, not everybody can do
this way.
Then, why he/she joined Ph.D program in China?
Most of my friends who got Dr. degree are not in China any more.
They are in the States or Europe, Japan or even HongKong. In
my impression, if you want to, you can go abroad for sure
with Dr. degree, except you did nothing in research but
