Two months ago, Yifan Pan, a girl from China, came to Children's
Hospital Boston for medical treatment. And we sent out emails calling
for volunteers to help. Here is an update.
After extensive tests and evaluation, Yifan is now on the waiting list
for lung transplantation and will stay in Boston. Given the
uncertainty of this procedure, there is no reliable estimate as when

首先，我不是什么官，只是想尽自己的力帮一下小姑娘；
其次，我没有觉得自己啥都懂，相反，我明白自己知道的不多，也没说我懂；
我只是转发一下信息，说Yifan's initial medical evaluation will start
immediately after their arrival (presumably March 18 or 19) and is expected
to last for about one week.

刚刚跟阿姨取得了联系，在这里跟关心一帆的好心人说明一下一帆最近的情况。
目前一帆只有很浅的意识，手脚有时候会动一下，跟她讲话偶尔她会有一点点反应
。阿姨亲口说：有一天一帆突然叫阿姨的名字，阿姨好激动好激动地回应一帆，可是一
帆再也没有其他反应。还有就是，昨天阿姨跟一帆讲好多好心人捐钱给她们，真的非常
感谢这些捐助者，一帆流下了一滴眼泪。
现在保险已经不再涵盖接下来的任何康复费用，一帆目前人在OSU的综合医院，但
是因为没有支付任何医疗费用，院方已停止提供任何康复性治疗只是每天给一帆提供食
物等最基本的生存所需。现在医院每天都派人来跟阿姨交涉要求一帆马上转院，院方称
再不转院会提起诉讼。

在9月10日的病情通报中，医疗团队非常沮丧，他们经过了一个星期的反复确认， 才最
终将怡帆最后一次肺活检结果告诉我们。............... 医疗团队告诉我们： “虽
然怡帆创造了很多奇迹，但是这一次，她也许只能再坚持两个星期。抓紧时间做你们想
做的， 我们将尽力提供最好的资源。”
9月15日，我们请纽英伦中华基督教会的施牧师到怡帆的病房为她施洗，将她完全交托
在神的手里。
9月16日，一个洒满阳光的日子，我们要求带怡帆去花园里晒晒太阳，她已经在病房里
呆得太久。
9月23日，怡帆穿上白雪公主的漂亮裙子，圣诞老人来送给了她一个迪斯尼派对，她见

我个人觉得是如果phd期间没有nature/cell子刊以上的文章的话，如果还不是大牛组，
就还是不要去拼薄后人品爆发这个小概率事件了。。。
诚然有很多phd没什么文章的土博在postdoc做的风生水起，问题是现实中的 朱冰，王
晓晨到底有几个呢？
大多人需要信心＋底气来支持自己的薄后生涯，大文章＋fellowship或者名校／名老板
就是底气，至少以后转行还容易得多，剩下的大多数的芸芸众生我看来实际就是在赌青
春赌人生.....
当然，as always，以上对于 天生多金和 真正对物质生活没有兴趣一心学术的 牛人是
不适用的...
cheng yifan可以做10几年薄后，做到50多岁当PI,我不知道他家啥背景，他老婆挣多少
钱，反正我是不行....
把学术还给真正耐得住寂寞的人（chegn yifan） 和真正的牛人（e.g zhang feng)也
挺好的.... |

cryo-em解了几个结构。
direct electron detector好几家公司都在做，包括UCSF,MRC。有了detector之后，一
个重要的问题是解决beam induced motion，YIFAN CHENG写了这个软件。beam induced
motion早在1985年就有人提出来了，Nikolaus Grigorieff验证了他们的假说，他只是
发了一个小文章，他的贡献也非常大。 |

I read the profiles on yahoo.finance and followed some links.
It looks like Yifan purchased a dormant but not completely
dead company SmartGames which is still publicly traded
in the OTC market. My guess is that they used
that approach to make themselves public traded with going
the normal IPO route which has a lot more accounting requirement
and is more difficult.
