据当地媒体报道，上个月，在加州北圣何塞（North San Jose）的一个高档公寓楼
里发生的枪击命案跟一个加州的地下妓院网络有关。星期三，执法部门宣布逮捕了三名
与此案有关的华人。
9月28日夜间，在Montague Expressay以北的Elan Village Lane，一个高档公寓楼
里发生枪击案。赶到现场的警官发现31岁的Xingjian Li受伤，他在送到医院后不久死
亡。
警方说，这个公寓单位被用来经营一个妓院。
三名南加州的男子因为与这起杀人案有关而被捕：28岁的An Yan，27岁的Lin Tao
，36岁的Panpan Huang。
根据监控录像，还有两名与此案有关的男子在逃。这两名男子在圣何塞命案的附近

她19岁到21岁就读UIUC时，无数次的强暴她，还曾开车企图撞死她。
"我所以提出诉讼，是不想要让徐钢(Gary Gang Xu)及像他一样的教授，继续在学
术界滥用职权"，提控徐钢的另一名原告赵欣(Xing Zhao，译音)则表示，尽管已经事隔

和其他new yorker的小说比起来，实在太业余了

Seems to me it was part of a longer novel. New Yorker does this a lot --
e.g. Jeffery Eugenides' << Middlesex >> published 3 selections on it over the
past 3(?) years, before the whole book came out last year.
The slowness may be exaggerated in the translation, since Western readers
expect an exotic, relaxed style from the Orient.
A novel does not have to have a lot of plot and/or character. It's been

她觉得是个allegory，并且go through了那个故事，
指出她觉得有特别的意义的地方。开头是文革
结束了大家都特高兴，那个庙是共产主义理想，
最让我吃惊的是结尾的小孩子她认为是指台湾。
她很不满我只喜欢看有情节的小说。并且很好奇
除了我以外的中国读者对她的看法是什么反应，

kissed her的细节，就知道故事是发生在文革末期以后。高氏笔下simply being happy的
感情立刻就有了历史背景—新婚夫妇不绷紧阶级斗争的弦，也不会被当成资产阶级情调批
判了。
咱的印象里读那时的作品，好像社会上下都有一种无名的happiness。舒婷
《会唱歌的鸢尾花》里面有“当我们悄悄对视/灵魂像一片画展中的田野/一涡儿一涡儿阳
光”,跟这篇小说开头“We were deliriously happy, delirious with the hope,
infatuation, tenderness, and warmth that go with a honeymoon.”正是异曲同工。
改革开放后面，对社会种种问题，大家就没那么高兴sober起来了。
不过你老板这么微言大义，explicit的解释有点上纲上线。问问她是不是对奥威尔的《动
物农场》情有独钟。

bizaar, and oritental than read Chinese.
Several Gao Xingjian's stories were carried in the magazine, makes good
reading.
Gibbon actually prefer write in French, :-)
Nabokov writes in English, but he is Russian. |

it is OK to ignore him as a Chinese writer. For Gao Xingjian, I read some part
of Lin Shan, really hard for me to enjoy his work. I don't think he could
be comparable to Lu Xun or Lao She. If he wrote and publish his works in
China, I don't think they would draw any attentions from public only by
their literature values.
