Actually, there are some students who go to Juilliard for musical training
while attending a normal high school...
There are a number of Chinese students at Juilliard... pianists, violinists...
all very talented and a lot of them receive scholarships... they supplement
their schlarship by working part time. |

the OST and looked for the performer. In the result, I found Joshua Bell,
who was the rising star at that time and grasped all my notice. He captured

发帖数: 6896 | 23 前几天儿子在看这本书，我觉得挺有意思的，他读完了我就借来看。The Violinist's
Thumb，这是一本关于遗传学的科普书，目前只看了四章，但挺精彩的。
他从孟德尔的豌豆实验，摩根的果蝇实验开始，介绍人类是如何发现 DNA，基因，染色
体，而它们又是如何传递遗传密码。其中讲到的一些事情非常有意思，例如 DNA 编码
方式与语言学的关联（Zipf's law），还有萧邦的一首夜曲翻译成 DNA 语言后的惊人
发现。又例如为什么遗传学理论与达尔文的 natural selection 理论水火不容。（长
了一点知识：原来数学里面有个分支是研究 knot
theory 的！应该是 topology 的一支吧？）
（Zipf's Law 是从自然语言中发现的规律，但据说其他许多东领域也都符合此定律，
包括音乐，人口分布，收入分布，地震规模，种族灭绝等等。我在想，不知道程式语言
是否也符合此规律？由此联想到早年曾经有些学者从一个程式码的 operator 与
operand 数目去预测或判断程式的复杂性。这都是对 source code 做微观分析。）

So, Mayuko Kamio won the Tchaikovsky competition's violin section, and
nobody I know seems terribly surprised.
And it's not because she played miles ahead of her competition, although I
happen to think she played exceptionally well. No, it's more of the usual:
Kamio's teacher is the eminent Zakhar Bron, who happened to be on the jury.

巴赫到莫扎特之间的作曲家，大多是harpsichordist and violinist, 在古钢琴上作曲
，但是小提琴也都很牛，因为经常创作和演出室内乐，例如巴赫家族，海顿，和莫扎特
都是很出色的提琴家。巴赫是真正全能的音乐家。海顿和莫扎特经常一起演奏弦乐四重
奏。莫扎特经常和学生朋友们演奏三重奏，通常由莫扎特的美女学生担任小提琴，莫扎
特担任比较难的中提琴声部。
莫扎特时代是古钢琴到钢琴的过渡阶段。这个阶段的作曲家大多由古钢琴入门(grew up
playing harpsichord)，后来才转为钢琴，所以指法都是古钢琴那种比较轻柔精确的

My older sister is a violinist and that's how I started. My parents once
tried to lead me onto the musician track like my sister but finally gave up.
It was such a pain for both them and me.
There are good pop, rap music as well. But comparing with the clssic music
passing over ages, most of them are really trash. |

violinists can integrate more emotion and body language when interpreting
the music.
