1. 电影127 hours的原型，用pocket knife把自己的胳膊割下来逃生的climber，现在
就在Aspen的Ute mountaineering店里工作。
2. 跑山很有意思，比一般的trail running更极端一些。进程得按爬升算，以1000ft为
单位，而不是算mileage。
3. 现在过了13000ft就基本跑不了上坡了。大坡度要用手压在膝盖上。看Kilian
Jornet跑Kilimanjaro，19000ft，那真是神人啊。
4. 高原训练一大好处是恢复快，因为跑不快，心跳可以随便push。这次来了Aspen之后
就没跑进过7分。有时在trail上跑下坡正得意着呢，一看305，8－9分pace。记得两年
前来这里跑tempo的时候最快也就刚近7分，还是3％的下坡。上坡时根本跑不到7分。所
以说如果为了提高sea level跑步的速度，高原训练之后还得在sea level跑几周，把速
度找回来。
5. 以个人经验，8000尺的altitude acclimation最少要4天，理想要两周。前三天那真

，但是美国人确实screw up 许多well-established and time-tested 英语语法规则。
或者说美国人发明了不少奇怪的语法规则，单词拼写规则，单词使用方法。我猜测原因
之一是：可能美国历史上没有全国统考，还有很多“不合格”的老师“乱教”。
billing 的问题其实是 音节划分问题。美国英语的这个词的音节划分不同用于世界其
它国家的这个词的音节划分。
类似的例子有：solute (sol.ute), value (val.ue)。
其实这种新的音节划分，上了年纪美国人也是不会的。他们发这些词还是传统的发音。
美国人破坏了很多词的拼写。比如，美国英语词典说acknowledgement and
acknowledgment;judgement and judgment 都对，但是后者更常用。他们为什么要去掉
字母e? 但是，他们却又要在judgeship保留字母e。整个乱套。

UC Berkeley graduate student Arthur Qi, remembered for his gentle nature,
died over the weekend. He was 30.
Qi, who was a student in the Haas School of Business’ Master of Financial
Engineering Program, was found dead in his home after classmates alerted
