Unison also has easy-to-use GUI mode. The current version even provide a
nice GUI config tool to even off the learning curve.
I have no experience with SyncToy, but according to their wiki page, I think
it is less flexible and configurable.Moreover, some of my friends have bad
experiences: SyncToy somehow messed up all the sync-roots frequently.Now,
they are all quite happy with Unison.

这个牌子做不粘锅应该是很靠谱的了,但是正价的话50可能搞不定
我们家全线搞的都是它们的unison nonstick,用了两年了,效果很好,而且耐久
它们的unison系列是不粘锅最好的,分slide和sear两种,
后者是那种表面不光滑但仍然不粘的,煎鱼应该很合适
可以去outlet看看,或者周围有tjmaxx的厨具区也可以找找看
我们家里两个平底的unison都是outlet搞到的,一个四十多一个六十多的样子
所以或许你也可以去试试运气:D |

后来发现了dropbox，适用了一段时间后彻底放弃了unison。
主要原因有两个，一是unison还是要手动的sync，二是没有版本控制功能。 |

Rsync itself is not a two-way syncing tool, but rather a mirroring tool. For example, if you have file A,B,C in one machine, and file A,B on the other, rsync don't know if file C is created on the first machine, or been deleted on the second machine.

假设你有两台电脑a和b， 你在两台电脑上面都做了修改，你如何同步？如何知道文件C
是a上面创建的
还是b上面删除的？哪一台是server？
就算你有一个dedicated server c， 也无法解决这个问题。因为a 把 c 更新了以后c
再和b同步时还是会
有同样的问题。
unison会在同步时产生hash文件记录这次的所有文件信息。这样下次同步时才会知道文
件C是原来有而
现在被删除的还是原来没有而后来添加的。 unison才是一个正真的2-way sync。

如果有iPad，iPhone，Android，要跨平台就要用dropbox

个文件两边都
有跟新，则默认是更新时间近的覆盖远的。同步时它会有一个列表，列出那些文件是
local传到
remote，那些是remote传到local，你也可以手动调整用某个版本覆盖另一个。一般它
自己的默认选择
都是对的。
unison是pairwise的sync，所以如果有很多电脑时，最好是用star的结构，就是所有的
电脑都只和一台
同步，以免各自两两同步造成文件不全。
ifolder同步和dropbox非常类似，但它不是严格意义上的实时更新。实时更新是在有文
件修改时才触发
更新，并且只扫描这个更改的文件。ifolder每几秒到几分钟（可以自己设置）检测一
下改动，因为它驻
留内存，所以很快发现有改动的文件并上传的服务器。其他的client在之后的扫描时会
发现这个改动并
自动把服务器上的版本下载下来。所以只要第二台机器在修改同一个文件前已经和服务
器同步过了，
就没有问题，反之就会产生从突，需要用户自己选择保留哪个版本。

我目前的文件同步和备份的办法是：
1, dropbox在家里和实验室之间同步重要文件。
dropbox空间只有18G，所以不能同步娱乐文件，但工作、文档、程序什么的基本够了
2, live mesh在家里几台机器之间同步所有数据文件。
3, unison定期在主力机和外置硬盘之间同步，这个实际上是备份。
不知道有没有更好的办法，交流一下。 |

是有部分文件因为备份的时候改变而失败。
想在unison启动脚本中先关掉Thunderbird，备份以后再重新启动。但是又希望如果正
在写email的时候，不要关掉它（如果备份的时候正在写email就skip这次备份)。不知
道是否有办法自动检测Thunderbird是否正开有一个Compose的窗口？ |

Why do so many Chinese study physics and math relative to Americans?
The answer may be similar to why Germans, Swiss and Danes studied physics
and math, relative to Americans, prior to WWII.
That being, a long history of intellectual cultures in those other countries
and the lack of one here.
