望。因為韓戰中MiG-15對抗B-29的成功，也預言了這些轟炸機終究無法穿透美國防空網
。因此他要求Tupolev設計長程噴射轟炸機。但Tupolev在Tu-16的痛苦經驗中體認到蘇
聯的噴射引擎水準（值得一提的是，大戰末期英美德都有噴射機服役，但蘇聯沒有）不
足以支撐大型轟炸機的發展，堅持採用螺旋槳推進。憤怒的史達林在1951年設立新的
Myasishchev設計局以發展長程噴射轟炸機與Tupolev的螺旋槳轟炸機競爭。
Myasishchev的噴射轟炸機：2M在1953年試飛，但背後卻是徹底的工程失敗。其設計充
滿缺失，可靠性低，帳面性能也僅達到需求的一半：9000公里航程。由於缺乏空中加油
設備，飛行員轟炸完美國後必須朝向墨西哥灣前進以求在海上彈射。這架轟炸機正式服
役的代號為M-4，西方稱為Bison A。直到1956年，新一代的Bison加裝了空中加油設備
才將航程延伸到15000公里。
