I am a bridge project engineer, PE & Ph.D. w/ 4 yrs industry experience,
have been involved in various types of structures including P/T spliced
girder, curved plate girder, truss and cable-stayed, etc. My friends there
told me the salary would be about 75 K. Reasonable? Comments? Thanks!!! |

for more accurate answer.
Simple answer will be: Floor framing only take gravity load. For wood floor,
that will be floor joist or floor truss member. For concrete floor, it
might be floor beam or joist members only taking gravity load.

其实FE是很有用的，但好像学术上发展前景不好，因为很成熟了。工作一般需要与具体
专业相结合。到石油行业薪水很高。做管线，特殊结构分析都很好。
纯作wood structure的前景难料。目前应用最广的是roof truss,但是就是Alpine和
MItek。纯粹木结构大型界构好像不太多。 |

发帖数: 270 | 8 刚从feild回来，爬ladder爬的腿发抖。。上来看到这么多re，吓了一跳。
我是做结构的。以前做commercial building，前几年residential不行的时候，就有点
担心；08年下半年commercial也支撑不住了。后来被layoff以后也是四处奔走，到处递
简历。有过几次电面，也没有下文。 搬到德州，这边经济虽有下降，但是比其他地方
要好一些。
现在是做heavy industrial，就是给公司里的一些设备做tower，truss设计维护之类。
其实这些要比做building简单，就是环境要差些。另外当时面试我的是一个中国女
manager，人非常好。我想要不是她的大力推荐，我也不会从几百份简历里跳出来。
觉得job market明年会好一些，building方向说不准，但是energy，industrial还是有
opening的吧。可能很多人都会有和我类似的经历，也经历过失望，失落，特别是我们
这行现在的处境。但是还是像老俞说，人生还是要充满一些希望的。坚持下去，跨过这

解了
lateral resistance system上的力最后肯定是传给地基了
slab可以想象成rigid的，使得各个节点的水平位移相同

定义中就讲了，Horizontal elements 有 Horizontal diaphragms 和 horizontal
trusses.
Veritical Elements 有 Shear Walls , Braced Frames, 和 Moment-resisting
frames.
这个是最基本的，然后再看 4.3 system。 你顺便还可以看一看 Figure 4.1 理解下最
基本的vertical elements force-resisting system. 以及Fig 4.2 系统的区别。
你通读完第四章，看一下4.18， 第四点，你就知道哪两个system最需要你研究（这两
个之间的区别极大）。然后做做第四章的习题，贯彻一下。
另外，IBC，ASCE 都备全了，做好目录，TAB. |

maybe internal transfer for me is best for me.
Just to clarify my modeling/analysis experience is all kinda "not-easy"
stuff.
From suspension, cablestayed bridges, to regular thru-arch truss , and from
static to dynamic, linear to nonlinear, stage to impact loading, time
history, plastic hinge, you name it. I am sick of these kinda of stuff.
So i guess all my experience for DOT people are useless. Right?

(a)是说diaphragm是可以给非抗震构件做支撑。（a)本身并未说明diaphragm是否是
lateral resisting system的一部分。
另外，只要考虑抗震，diaphragm一定（也许99%以上）是重要的抗震系统一部分。

a couple of questions:
1, does your supervisor have IL SE? just curious. i believe an SE license,
not PE, is required in IL to seal structural dwgs.
2, r u working for a consulting firm? it is not common in a consulting firm
that some people registered in all 50 states. but it is common for some
manufacturing company, like metal bldg, precast concrete, timber truss, etc.
