conflict with devotion to one's homeland. Just look at how American Jews use
the U.S. to help Israel unconditionally. We need millions more Chinese
Americans to make the U.S. more friendly towards China, and break the glass

解决办法就是要限制PI权力，减少大grant数量，增加小grant 数量，增加为薄厚和学
生设置的grant 和 fellowship，逐渐取消薄厚制度，设置类似级别的non-tenure
track的独立或半独立的固定工作。这些手段相当于学术界的 anti-trust法案。由于生
物学研究大部分是可以由小实验室甚至个人为主，合作为辅完成的，所以这种方案可行。
不过，目前的趋势和这种方案相反。以后越来越多的grant 是大grant，由众多lab合作
，甚至整个系，center，来搞的。理由是现在是post-genomic age，high throughput
的项目称为主流，需要大量的合作。我对此持保留态度。其实可以把这类“大”科学和
我前面说的“小科学”分开，各自用各自适合的方案。
另外，所谓“大科学” 很容易让那些水平不行，但很会搞关系钻营的人生存地更好。
从而增加隐形行政人员的数量，成了大锅饭， 降低真正科学家的士气，降低整个行业

don’t argue
immediately do whatever s/he tells you to
work as much as humanly possible
get tons of results
How to be a good scientist:
argue back; think about whether ideas make sense
do what makes sense to do next, even if it’s not what your advisor said
work hard, but in a way that’s sustainable and keeps you happy and healthy
get lots (maybe not tons) of deliberately-targeted results
Of course, a sane advisor will want the latter.

除了发文章之外，多参加conference，多做presentation，混paper award或者invited
talker，paper reviewer什么的都有用。 |

are many many ways, not necessarily all require you to immerse yourself

related to the book content through the class and I was so mad at her at
that time. If it is in the university, it might be ok, cause students are
expected to read book and resolve problem. But not good in nursing or
medical field where the experience AND knowlege are both important. Sadly,
some other students like her, one student stated that it really gave her the
chance to read the book, blah blah blah.. And she kiss |
