一名中国留学生初到美国，在机场找厕所，问老外：「Where is W.C.？」老外听不懂。
一名中国太太到医院生产，洋护士问她：「Did you have a bowel movement？」她却听
不懂。还有人学了几十年的英语，还不晓得英语里的「大便」、「小便」、「放屁」真正
应该怎么说……
至于性毛病，更是老中难于启齿、欲语还羞的尴尬。见到洋医生，窘迫万分，不知如何开
口才是，真有「犹抱琵琶半遮面」的感受。
以下为一些「禁忌」（taboo）的美语之整理。毕竟这些都是咱们日常生活的一部分，说
不定有一天这些「禁忌」之语还能「派上用场」呢！
厕所
在美国一般都叫rest room或bath room（男女厕均可）或分别叫做 men‘s room 或

她是一个单亲妈妈，一手拉扯大两个孩子。她儿子19岁那年，自己买了辆车。首付是用
自己打工赚来的，贷款需要妈妈共贷。办好手续，母子俩走出贷款办公室时，儿子对她
讲了一句话，我听了顿时眼眶发热：
妈妈，感谢你，感谢我们有贫穷的生活。
因为是单亲，家庭条件不好，妈妈一直努力工作（她真的是一位非常敬业非常好的老师
，嗯。）而孩子们也从小就很独立，打工挣钱养家。

距不比一般超智和弱智的差距小，但更重要的是2，他的成长过程中有一组专家团队在
帮助他，比如每年测试他各个方面的能力，帮他和学校沟通提供适合的课程（比如他的
数学在一个年级上，阅读写作是另外的年级，不是简单跳级），有这样的条件，运气不
是一般地好。
超智孩子，很多是visual-spatial learner， 他们的学习方式和一般学校的教学方式
／教学要求差别很大，所谓伤仲永，很多是不合适的教育造成的，并不是高智商本
身的intrinsic properties。
可惜的是，西方社会的大众观念里，精英教育是有taboo意味的，白白浪费了大好的脑
力资源。其实真正公平的教育，是每个孩子都能得到适合自己的帮助和指导，充分发挥
潜能，而不是每个孩子都学到同样的程度。
陶同学的个例，虽然极端，但很好地展示了在适合的帮助和指导下，高智商的孩子充分
