w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 1 I don't think the sweat rate is well defined per se. Obviously I sweat a lot
in hot weather and sweat very little
in cold weather. In the winter I don't need to drink during a long run,
whereas in the summer I would bring
water in 9+ mile runs. Also, the more you drink during the run, the more you
will sweat. I have discovered
this when I run on the treadmill. Your body knows to conserve water when you
don't drink, and "spends"
water when there is plenty. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 2 I'm saying that this "sweat rate" is pointless. It also very much depends on
the speed you run. Clearly I would
sweat much more in a 6-minute mile than in a 9-minute mile.
The sweat rate is a function of at least three variables: the temperature, the humidity, and the heart rate.
Good luck measuring this function of yours! I'll spend my time doing more useful things.:) |
|
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 4 No, you are assuming that the sweat rate per mile is constant, while I
believe it depends very much on how
fast you run the mile. If I jog a mile in 9 minutes in 50F I won't break a
sweat, but if I run a mile in 6:00 in 50F
I will surely sweat a lot.

g*****r 发帖数: 4444 | 5 You don't feel the sweat doesn't mean you don't sweat. You sweat, but it is
so slow that it vaporizes before it accumulate for you to feel.
Weight yourself, then jog 10 mile with a 9min pace, and weigh yourself again
to see if you become lighter. |

T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 9 Finally measured my sweat rate this morning. It was about 85F outside with
high humidity. I weighted myself before a 6 mi easy run, during which I
drank 2 bottles of Gatorade (20 oz/ea), and weighed again after the run.
Apparently my weight loss was less that half-pound so my scale did not show
any changes. So that makes the calculation super easy, I sweat at least 6.6
oz/mi under this condition.
Looking back at the NJ HM I ran under almost the same conduction. Even
though I picked up a small cu |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 10 It is not really possible to drink as much as your sweat, when you are
running fast. This is why I never thought
knowing the exact sweat rate is useful. You do what you can. In
ultramarathons when you really need to refuel
fully, you also run much slower and even taking breaks to eat and drink.

b***i 发帖数: 10018 | 11 from this guideline, the sweat rate of a 140lb person under 60F is 4.4oz/mi
mine is only 3.5oz/mi. looks like i sweat less than average? |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 12 No I don't keep the data - the contrast is huge though. I often measure my
weight before and after my run on
the treadmill. One thing I did notice -- not through measuring my weight but
through observing the sweat on
my shirt and on my shorts -- is that if I keep drinking water throughout the
run, I sweat (much) more than if I
don't drink water, assuming approximately the same pace. |
|
T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 13 Thanks for the data, Ban Zhu
My sweat rate is one level up from my weight bracket, but I think it has a
lot to do with humidity. I sweat a lot more in high humidity/moderate temp
that low humidity/high temp.

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 14 I think "heat index" is supposed to reflect the effect of humidity. When it'
s humid your sweat evaporate slower
and you have to sweat more to cool down your body temperature. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 15 What I'm saying is that I think the sweat rate also depends on how well the
body is hydrated to start with. If a
person is already dehydrated, I think he will sweat less under the same stress
level. |

I am now playing with some "non-badminton players," and half of them are
girls. So how do I get sweat?
Feed very very nice shots to where exactly they stand, and try hard to catch
all kinds of returns, no matter outside shots and even shots not going to
pass the net.
The good parts:
1. lost weight
2. run allover the court and wildly beyond
3. played badminton
4. every body is happy (more important)

b***i 发帖数: 10018 | 37 you probably don't break a sweat at slower pace, but you still lose fluid.
i jogged 5 miles at 9:27/mi this morning around 60F, to my surprise,
i still lost 1.1 lb, the "sweart" rate is still 0.22lb/mi, same as my MP run. |
