medical center的人基本都在288走廊上扎堆儿。城里好区的房子都是六十年代的老房
子，价格却动辄五六十万，除了医生和教授，别人买不起。
买得起的地方学区和治安不好，所以都跑8号环线以外了。我们这几天感觉交通还算方
便，尤其是早晨，20分钟车程。晚上六点以后回来也不怎么堵车。
你的价位要买新房只能买到2000sft左右的房子。
pearland这一片目前只有shadow creek ranch，Southern trail和Sedona lake有新房
出售。稍远一点的Southern fork和Reodo palm也有新房，但是builder名声都不太好，
房价超便宜。
Shadow creek ranch的Kingsley以西有landfill（垃圾填埋）和化工厂的问题，而且学
区划到fort bond，房价比较受影响。Kinsley以东只有Westin homes有新房，但是他们
的价位很高,现房里最小的户型2400sqf也要二十三四万。

flounder。我觉得老鹰兄问的应该是Southern flounder和Fluke（Summer flounder）
的差别，因为德州和俺这的flounder都是Southern flounder，而且这里的老美也就叫
flounder。
搜了半天也没发现Southern flounder和Fluke有什么特别明显的差别，都有牙，眼睛都
在左侧，可能身上的斑纹不太一样。

2.按第一层SOS成绩相加得到每对所打的第二层球队的胜负和
3.加权，第一层乘以1，第二层除以20。这是考虑到每队平均打了10场，另外第二层影响

数。

排名这么算简单些，win-loss的SOS比较复杂，尤其是考虑现在每队打得比赛数量还不
一样。
费了些时间搞定了，结果如下。胜负场次对每队打的总场次归一化。
第一层*1，第二层*0.5，第三层*0.25，以此类推。
SEC西区排名抢眼啊。
我原来一直觉得TCU比BSU SOS强很多，看来是错觉，以这个赛季到现在的成绩，SOS不
分伯仲。
TCU计算积分高大概是因为多大两场，而且BSU的两个相对强队还没打。最后计算积分会
很接近。
Oregon我就不说。。。

declared the BCS national champs retroactively after Southern California was
forced to vacate that title today.
The BCS stripped Southern California of the title because the NCAA put the
Trojans on probation for wrongdoings involving Reggie Bush in 2004. The BCS

第二天一早去buffet吃早饭，continental的6：30开始，只有一些muffin，面
包水果什么的，好吃的7：00过一点开始，每天种类差不多，炒蛋，土豆，waffle，
bacon，ham，水煮蛋，不过炒蛋从来都是黏黏糊糊的状态。Mongolia wok那边有现炒的
鸡蛋，放青椒蘑菇什么的，有点像青椒斩蛋，不过要排队。吃完了继续在船上转悠拍照
。原定中午12点就到Key West，晚上风大，推迟到了一点半才到，所以12点时淡定的到
buffet吃得饱饱的。下船在3楼，会有工作人员指挥怎么排队，Key West下船的人非常
多，Nassau的反而少，到Freeport基本都没什么人下船了。由于晚点，原定8点开船推
迟到了9点，开船前半个小时必须回来，也就是说上船时间由原来的7点半以前推到8点
半以前。下船时刷船卡，回来凭船卡和ID（这里驾照就行了，在Bahamas的时候也没有
要检查护照）。
踏上Key West，热带小岛的风情迎面而来，到处都是高大的棕榈树，街头很多

学城，感受一下美国最最更新的、流行的、时髦的文化，这些大学城更适合年青人玩。
美国的州立大学所在的城市和校园附近很值得参观和定居，这是对美国最新文化的一种
认识和接触 甚至是感受，校友的影响力（有点像清华的校友会那样）足以影响本州的
经济和政治，甚至是整个国家范围。
特别是8月底开始后 到1月中旬，一定要去看看 顶尖联盟（Division I-A）的大学校，
大部分都是公立学校，私立的数量少（校友会的影响不强）。 比如说 大12联盟 东
南联盟 大西洋海岸联盟 太平洋12联盟 等等 ...
做了一个列表 是以联盟的字母顺序排列。 如果是经常在美国旅游，可以一个一个玩下
来下面的大学城，玩下大部分的这些地方，对美国的认识可能会上一个台阶，其中有很
多大学城离 自然风景区 也很近 （比如像华盛顿，科罗拉多 大学 等） 我近几年国内
游会把自然风景和大学城旅游耦合在一起。

Blueberries come from cool, moist, forest clearings in North America. The
trick to growing them in hot, dry Southern California is to choose the low-
chill types.
Blueberries need an acid soil (pH of 4.5-5.5). Plant bare-root or potted
shrubs in large pots filled with azalea mix and peat moss. Place in light
shade to full sun.

自从吃过树上熟透的蓝莓，孩子们就念念不忘，每次在菜店看到蓝莓都要买，而每次都
有些失望，因为买的远没有树上熟的甜。照理南加的干热气候不适合蓝莓，但是苗圃里

莓种植。
第一次在苗圃买了两棵开花结果的中型树，吃上了一些果子。其间学习得知蓝莓要强酸

第二次买蓝莓树的时候已经熟悉Home Depot/Lowes，知道春天有便宜的蓝莓小苗，而且

已，满心指望今年冬天吃上树熟的果子。可是好景不长，进入盛夏蓝莓树就开始枯萎，
到秋天就死翘翘了。到底什么原因让我这个绿手指如此悲摧呢？为此专门请教了蓝莓行
家黑手指小番茄。得出的结论是，盛夏的干热不是理由，蓝莓种植的成功之道还得自己

第一次在国内电台听到这歌，说是反映美国淘金热的年代，那些在加州的淘金者淘不到
金又不敢回家，遇见家乡来的女孩，一诉思乡之情。好像中国古诗也有类似意境，假想
一个少女或小孩，作为思乡的对象。
今天又听到，觉得简直是在说自己的故事，说俺们这些海外留学不得归的。听到It
never rains in California，加州阳光灿烂，但是我还是想回家，就觉得心里湿湿的
。（哈哈，当时没听清后一句是it pours，:-P）
然后又听到“告诉家乡的人，我快发财啦”，又听到“别告诉他们我现在的样子”，突
然觉得很难受。
还说告诉家乡父老 "(I) Had offers but didn't know which one to take",不由莞尔

SCA5 是由民主党州参议员贺南德兹（Ed Hrnandz）提出的一项法案。该提案称，目前
加州大学系统中的亚裔学生比例过高，要求限制亚裔学生入学比例，提高非裔和拉美裔
的入学率。加州参议院1月30日以27票赞成对9票反对通过了SCA5提案。SCA5提案将于近
日被提到加州众议会再次投票。如果众议会投票通过，SCA5法案将于今年11月举行公投
。一旦提案公投通过，加州公立大学亚裔学生比例将从现在的40%下降到15%，那么亚裔
孩子在大学中势必受到排挤。

很多闲田和open的荒地里有大片的黄花，离得远时我还以为是Yellow Rocket（十字花
科类似油菜花的），走进了才发现是Butterweed（菊科，以前分在千里光属现在单分了
一属）。这花长得很高（一米以上），花也小，没有制高点的话不太好拍，明明长得很
密了，但是近处的很容易露出茎秆。加上当天有风，我就用CPL叠了一片6档ND，想拉个
慢门把花被风吹得摇摆的样子记录下来，但是减光不够，风也不够大，花摆动幅度很小
，没能实现想象中的效果。
Southern Illinois有一点点Deep South的影子（swamp，bald cypress），跟芝加哥附
近可能不太一样，不过butterweed在Illinois分布非常广泛，高速边的闲田里经常能见
到。按纬度差来看北边也应该慢慢都开了吧，开车在空旷的地方转一转也许会有惊喜
另外推荐一下Southern Illinois，离芝加哥可能有点远，但是几个小时就能略窥Deep
South的自然风光也不失一个周末踏青的好选择。 |

has a
longer rugged face, while a typical Southerner is shorter and has a more
round and delicate face...though these may sound like stereotypes.
BTW, "southern charm" is a common phrase in US, as Southerners are charming
with their sayings, loveable and authentic...but you know US is not broken
up in North and South, only the South is the South. |
