温顺，一看就是无毒的。中间一个小蛇爬走，才注意到原来是两条（第一张照片里有两
个尾巴）。没走的这条我有多拍了几张，挑几张清楚的上传。
查网得知是midland brown snake，成年也就一英尺长。我照片里的就更小了，半英尺
可能都不到吧 |

在北美的所有毒蛇中，水腹蛇cottonmouth一直享有盛名，这种蛇频繁的出现在各种
rural legend中，在水边活动的人多多少少都听过关于水腹蛇是多么的恐怖，传说中它

I found a small nonpoisonous snake today, and when I held it by the tail, it
did not (or could not?) reach up to my hand. I have seen that Steve guy on

蛇是爬行动物纲有鳞目，全球共有3000多种，分为蛇亚目和盲蛇亚目；蛇亚目即所谓的
“真蛇”共有15科，另外的于所谓的“盲蛇”一般大家见不到，见到了估计也不会觉得
是蛇，就略去不提了。
真蛇15科，除去好几科蟒蛇和稀有的蛇，其实大家在北美寻常能够接触到，看到或者听
说的普通蛇，也就3个科，游蛇，蝰蛇以及眼镜蛇。
游蛇科：
游蛇是最大的一科，占全世界蛇种类的3分之2，所有大洲除了南极之外都有分布，地上
爬的，水里游的，形态各异；一般来说水里游的蛇比较粗短，善于游泳；而陆地上的蛇
比较细长，善于攀援和缠绕；
游蛇大多数是无毒蛇，但也有一些所谓“后毒牙”蛇，毒牙长在口腔的后部，例如中国
常见的赤练蛇，这些蛇从分类来讲跟另外两种“真毒蛇”很不一样，毒性一般较弱，但
也有特例如非洲树蛇是可能致命的，不过北美没有什么危险的后牙蛇；值得一提的是游

之前说过了，毒蛇的另一大家子就是眼镜蛇科眼镜蛇亚科。顾名思义，眼睛蛇（cobra
）肯定是属于这一家子了，它们是比较好认的
受到威胁时脖子会变成扁平状。所有毒蛇里个人以为最有特色就是两大类，一个是响尾
蛇，一个就是眼镜蛇了。严格意义上的眼镜蛇其实只是眼镜蛇亚科的一个属，有20多种
，在非洲和亚洲分布都很广泛，也是印度四大毒蛇之一。除去能够展平的脖子外，眼镜
蛇的外形和通常的无毒蛇比较接近，细长，头也比较小，呈椭圆形。眼镜蛇属里有十多
种是蛇类中的暗器高手，能够喷毒的，2m内颇有些准头，而且这类眼镜蛇的蛇毒在自家
传统的神经毒之外，往往还加入了血循毒的成份，如果喷到眼睛上，可以引起剧痛和暂
时性失明，重则永远见不到光明喽……这些种类的眼镜蛇又常被统称为射毒眼镜蛇（
spitting cobra）
说来奇怪，这些射毒眼睛蛇的分布很分裂，非洲很多，东南亚也很多，中间中东、印度

kill a snake, another (its mate) will follow you and take revenge. That, of
course is wrong, but may have some basis in fact. When you kill a snake it
expels its musk from the anal opening; it is very possible that a nearby
snake may show up to investigate what the musk (a sex - attractant) is all
about.

根据自己的时间和兴趣，要想每个景点看一遍，至少要在里面玩三天。大部分旅行社的
线路安排都是一整天，走马观花，在几个著名景点前拍照留念，到此一游。每年的黄石

insects that attract the snakes.
Cymbopogon citrates (Lemongrass) repels snakes
Marigolds (Tagetes) repel snakes and mosquitoes
Tulbaghia violacea (Wild garlic) repels snakes - it is planted by the
Zulus around their homes.
