Compared to Zeiss 35-70 VS the latter is a little bit sharper which I am not
surprised at all as the VS rivals primes in its range. But 24-85 does not
have any CA, and flare is also very well controlled. Considering these plus
AF I believe the 24-85 is a better choice for general usage. For landscape I
may still carry the 35-70, which is sharper, and has almost no vignetting.

• Canon 50mm F1.8/F1.4: When I first moved to Canon, I started out
with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. Though it has some slight quirks to it (
autofocus is a bit hard to do at time and can be slow) it is still a
wonderful general purpose lens and an excellent lens for when videos need to
be shot at something like a concert. Stopped down to F4, it is wonderfully

The smaller-sized images out of the 5D Mark III are spectacular. They are
much, much sharper and cleaner than images from cameras on which that is
their native resolution. When you start with over 20MP, it looks pretty good
if you use all those to make 11MP or 5MP.
Why? Because they use less, or no, Bayer interpolation. No digital camera
really resolves its rated resolution; they cheat and interpolate up, so at
100% at its rated resolution, no digital camera image is as sharp as a true
