里要 outging SMTP server name, 或者用public free 的 SMTP server (好像你可以
免费用Google的).

relay (or smarthost relay) on linux. 剩下的就是改改 sendmail.cf 配置文件，re

in /etc/mail/access add:
chinanetHostName RELAY
Then setup the hp-ux machine to relay mail to the chinanet one
in /etc/sendmail.cf add or change:
DR hp-uxHostName
CR hp-uxHostName
# forward mail to relay host
This for sending mail. For receiving mails i think you'll need to
set up a virtual domain for sendmail which is beyond sendmail.cf..

Relay configuration for sendmail is to let it to be able to send/receive

configuring smarthost relaying if just for sending/receiving emails)?
2. I assume setting up mail server using sendmail for homenework probably
involves dealing your ISP on the DNS configuration for the mail server, are
they willing to assist you on that?
Could anyone with experience setting up mail server (on linux) for their
homenework share their thought on this?

15 years ago, but stopped 7-8 ago. The main problem is with reverse lookup
(spam prevention measure) -- if outside cannot see you, they will not accept
your email.
Port 25 is a separate issue. |

I've tried to take off the -bd flag, and started my mail log to see who's
breaking in. Maybe I'd better download 8.10.2 and update mine.

昨天下午香港中文大学的郑志豪教授讲了sendmail的一些具体问题,这下我
的任务可就来了:马上去ftp.sendmail.org下载最新版本的sendmail-8.9.3
下载倒是容易,每秒10K的速度感觉那不是个国外站点，倒象是川大下载清华软件
的速度.不过下载容易上载难，从华南理工到川大速度竟然是0.12K!!!好得很,
我也享受了一次"外宾"待遇,这么慢的速度估计也只有老外有资格享受了.
上载不成功,软件带不回成都估计算是工作失败，不过这还好交待:毕竟大家离
得远嘛.所以我,看电影去啦!
晚上的免费电影是<<洛丁山>>和<<黄河绝恋>>. |

可以发送文本信息，但却不知如何发送附件。在网上搜了一通，很多人
问过这个问题，有人说至少有两种途径：1)use Net::SMTP module 2) use UNIX
sendmail directly. 很多人讲第二种很可行，但没有提供源码。

work well, some unreadable text was APPENDED to the email, not attached.

want to configure one, either), the sendmail complains that the
host name is not a valid one. Could someone let me know how to
silence this guy (sendmail)?
Here is what is happening:
I configured rc.conf not letting it to start at boot time (and it
looks like it does not), however, every night something like 3am,
the sendmail still dumps information on tty0 complaining about
the domain name. |

for simulations. Because the stupid IT policy, it cannot go to the
internet, and hence no DNS accessible, and I do not want one on the
machine just for sendmail.
Also, my computer domain name is not registered to any DNS (there is
not any DNS, infact). This sendmail is default installation.
I know I can configure the sendmail to let it stop complaining. However,
given my tight time schedule, no interest in figuring it out.

and other friends.
I also think these guys are just playing around, not a big problem. The real
problem is that somebody is continuously using my workstation as a mail relay.
I have tried to block it by removing the "-bd" switch for my sendmail, then
it sems will not be able to forward any email :-(. guess I have to upgrade my
sendmail, 'coz it's really old (5.64).
