elite law school = good job prospect

发帖问一下，有没有准备在Campbell Forest Hill Elementary 上学需要找after
school的小朋友。我女儿今天8月份开始上Kindergarten，想找附近的after-school。
但是如果只是一个小孩的话，很难找到有学校司机接送的。如果有两个或者以上小朋友
的话，可以选择的after-school学校就好许多。
如果你也在找学中文、数学等的after-school的话，我们可以联系一下，看是否可以一
起来找同样的学校。
另外，Campbell Forest Hill Elementary 全校dismiss的时间是一样的，所以，任何
年级的都可以。

发帖数: 404 | 12 多年前以为上中文AFTER SCHOOL就能学好中文，而且这里的很多中文AFTER SCHOOL都会
罗列出非常丰富的课目表，后来发现实际根本不是那么回事。想想那么小的孩子在
regular school已经很累了，下午去中文AFTER SCHOOL上那么多课，效果会好吗？曾经
去孩子们的中文课看过，下午3点的中文课，全班20个孩子，有14在打瞌睡，问了两个
孩子说每天都是这样的，老师根本不管。最让我奇怪的是，每到考试全班人人都考满分
，老二说考试时老师让大家group study，就互相copy,如大家都不知道答案，老师会写
答案出来，老师对他们说：“你们考满分，爸爸妈妈才会高兴..."原来如此这成绩给家
长看，去AFTER SCHOOL都是双职工的孩子，哪有时间去了解detail,当看到孩子考满分
当然高兴. 来以为上中文AFTER SCHOOL 能学好中文也只是做父母一厢情愿的事情. |

引入竞争，打破公立教育的垄断，有助提高教育水准。所以从教育本身而言，没有啥问
题，至少可以一试。美国已经有不少州有school choice的选择了，只是力度不强。但
教育这样的关键领域，是不可能只从教育自身考虑的。
这里我想先提一下中国的情况，中国的k12教育原来基本是公家垄断的。但后来，出现
了所谓的“公校民办”，我自己原来的中学S就是这样做的。利用北京的吸引力，S在全
国范围招顶尖的学生，组成尖子班，这些小孩入校后，集中培训，帮助学校在各项竞赛
和高考成绩方面扶摇直上。结果，不仅周围的学区房暴涨，外区想来的孩子也是趋之若
鹜。学校自然是名利双收，目前教师队伍里硕士博士博士后占大部分，常驻外教几十人
，国际学生过百人。每周五放学时，家长开来的车能把校门的路堵3，4个小时。我最近
回去时，发现学校的政策又升级了，周边本来可以免费进入S的孩子，现在要有比例限
制了。学校要留更多的名额给外区学习好又肯出钱的孩子。学习差点的或钱不够的孩子

我的时速是31mph，限速是15mph。主要是当时真的没看到牌子。
后来我回去看，有三个小牌子，第一个写的是school zone, 第二个写的是school zone
的时间，第三个写的是speed，是那种可以闪的牌子。但是我当时真的没看见。
问问看版上有人收到类似的ticket，然后上庭的成功经验？
个人感觉如果是不是school ticket比较麻烦？法官是不是比较严厉？
个人开车两年，第一次拿ticket.这样求情是否有效？或者说因为有三个牌子没看清？
雷达的缺陷就算了，上网查了，据说是很准确的雷达，一般贵，都不用。。。 |

结束的时候说要送成绩去dmv，又要交14.95刀， 罚单ticket上当时说上traffic
school已经多交了60多刀了， 都是这样的吗？ 还是我被traffic school多收了费用
？
真是凄惨，上traffic school， ticket比不上要多交5，60刀， 完了网上还要交2次
15刀， 不知道是不是我哪里弄错了。

over了，限速25我开39，警察说：这个比较严重，即使我去court,也不一定能给我免
那193快钱。 因为是在school zone during posted hours while school was in
seesion.说黄灯在杀。我是一点没有经验阿，迷路了心急，也没有注意闪不闪的，只看
到绿灯亮了就开，还纳闷怎么那么多school bus？另外，我driver liscene也过期了，
这个警察说没有问题，只要我在去法庭之前补上就行。
现在我有三个选择，一是怪怪交钱，但是后果是可能会留record,那样会不会影响我保
险什么的； 二是请律师，还没有问多少钱，如果律师好的话据说可以把record摸掉；
3是我自己去出庭，我们州可以上课，然后不给你留record,交的钱肯定小于193，我一
个朋友stop sign没有停或高速超车的，就交了25快钱上课，然后就没事了，我这在
school zone,不知道是不是真的很严重阿，

减速了，但是后来看到牌子上还写着限速20mile，已经开进去了，
而且school zone后边接着就是红灯。
等红灯的时候警察出来了，说在school zone的速度是31，超过了限速的50%，
开了张204的罚单。 :(
罚单上有三个option：交full罚款，上法庭，去school
第一次吃ticket，不懂这些手续。
一般这种情况大家会选这三个选项里边哪一个？去法庭会要很多手续费吗？
听说有online traffic school，比上法庭和罚款都便宜，而且不伤points
但是网上搜出来的不知道可不可靠，有谁有经验吗？

You have a right to this.) When you are in court, if the police shows up,
you can ask the judge for traffic school. Or, you can argue your case and if
you lose you can ask for traffic school.
People will tell you that it is "up to the judge's discretion" whether to

减点，保费不涨。
第2，就是选择trial by written declaration.不知道这样如果输了之后，还能选择交

可以要求traffic school。给不给是法官根据案件的情况决定。
根据法律，法官不能因为你选择了和警察对抗，或因为你输了，的理由拒绝给你
traffic school。
跟（第3）一样，法官可以给。但是问题是你trial by written declaration输了，没
有机会跟法官说话。你可以打电话去，但是你打电话是跟clerk说，不是跟法官。我觉
得大多数法庭，在这个情况，clerk会给traffic school的。如果不行，你总是可以上
庭，跟着在上庭的时候跟法官说（上面的第3）。那，既然你有上庭的权利，他们有什
么理由会不让你上traffic school呢（上traffic school，你给他们更多钱，而且不用
占用他们的上庭时间）。 |

首先声明我是文科，teaching school。对此不感冒的同事可以跳过了。我还是很喜欢
teaching school，尤其是这些特点：
1. Tenure 相对容易。至少我觉得吧。尤其小学校更是如此。
2. 教书为主，research 要求低。适合喜欢教书的朋友。
3. 工作时间相对不长。尤其是我们文科，不要做实验什么的。
4. 与人打交道多。我就是喜欢和人交流，而不是对着电脑写paper.
5. 同事间相处融洽，小学习更是如此。因为多数同事也都和我一样，好说好玩好动
。
6. 更深入了解这个社会的方方面面。这个可能是文科的一些特点。我常用一些热点
的文化问题让学生课上讨论。
要在Teaching school 混好首先就是必须教书教得好。我们这里基本上是一票否决，教
书不好就呆不下去。这个相对来说是国人的弱点。我是文科，从博士起，语言运用的较

teaching school的AP呢，介于两者之间？5-7w？

如果学生超过30-40个，课堂问题会很少的，即便有一般也就是因为老师讲错了、笔误
什么的，不会有进阶问题。相反，关于问答，online teaching有crowd优势，FAQ和
online forum上的回答速度比一般的office hour快多了。事实上，给出最好答案的一
般是优秀的学生，反而不是老师或TA。我建议大家去瞅瞅有5000人以上的Coursera课程
论坛。
另外，视频也可以监督和考勤，也可以在规定时间和地点开放，可以配合在线的quiz。
相反，你见过超过50人的课次次点名么？
我说存在危机的是中后的teaching school。这些学校的问题不是课堂教育质量，也不
是文化，而是生源。如果父母花40K送孩子去一般般的teaching school，另一选择是同
等价格排名高很多的学校的hybrid program，不知道多少有多少父母会选前者。的确有
人钟爱某些学校，但是市场会萎缩。另外，维持一个学校的传统并不容易，需要好

如果是公立，工资涨幅和STATE的RESEARCH SCHOOL是一模一样的，都是STATE的雇员涨
幅。唯一不同的就是RESEARCH SCHOOL拿FUDNING的机会多，不过TEACHING SCHOOL可以
暑假多上课弥补。当然做RESEACH肯定没有RESEARCH SCHOOL给力。 |

。不过看来看去实在是没觉得在公司工作比起我们这些在Teaching School混得Faculty
有什么太多的好处。
首先是收入，在公司工作据说收入高些。不过我们这里不是什么高消费地区，新毕业的
AP基本工资也有9万，加上Summer Teaching和一些杂七杂八的收入混个11万左右是没问
题的。升到Associate一般一年怎么也有个12，3万了，再到Full 15万左右都很正常。
我们小学校评职称容易，很多40出头的就都拿到了正教授。在公司虽说可以多拿一些，
但是如果不在湾区纽约，没混到管理层的工程师40来岁恐怕也多不了多少吧，还不用说
我们只要愿意可以一直干到80岁。而且我们学校算收入低的，一个PHD Program毕业的
师兄师妹有一毕业就拿到16，18万，去的也就是好点的Teaching School，或者是没排
名的Research School.

Research school 好进的多。别一副看不起teaching school的 口气，人家更看不上外
来移民的水平呢。teaching school对语言和教学要求狠高，比research school 难进
多了，根本不适合外来移民，呵呵 |

those are privatly owned and you can send kids to any of them. Ppl usually
pay attention to high school -> middle school -> elementary school when
buying a house.
On the other you may be able to check the license of the daycare centers,
family care, and/or pre-school from state agency to make sure they're
licensed. |

fair process before getting dismissed from the school. He should have the
ability to appeal and have an impartial authority to review the decision.
This central matter is the tuition paid upfront. The school dismisses the
students while holding the remaining tuition is unethical and borderline
criminal. Without a due process, any school can take this kind of action and
make this a scam.
