1500m final tomorrow and would want to save energy by running a slow race.
Rupp has more endurance and would likely push for a fast pace, after last

it gets in America!

还都是同门师兄弟。
James Naismith在麻省发明了篮球这个新玩意后，来到了西边的kansas大学执教。从此
一个豪门诞生了，可是这个新生的婴儿并不健康，几年下来，竟然留下了一个losing
record，也是kansas大学史上唯一的一个losing教练。不知道是不是为了将功补过，他
在kansas培养了Phog Allen。
如今的kansas大学的体育馆，不叫james naismith，正是叫allen fieldhouse。为什么
，因为Phog Allen在这里的几十年(19-56)，真正将一个婴儿变成了全国瞩目的明星。
而且还为自己的球队贡献了两个强劲对手。
一个叫Adolph Rupp，执教kentucky的几十年间(30-72)，四夺全国冠军，成为SEC历史
上最dominating的一支，如今的体育馆也叫做rupp arena。
另一个叫Dean Smith，执教北卡的30多年(61-97)，不仅统治ACC联盟，而且培养了无数

means he is the 5-th fastest EVER in the indoor mile, and I believe also the
5-th fastest ever in the indoor 3K, behind only Komen, Gebrselassie, Bekele
and El Guerrouj. In other words, Galen Rupp is possibly the best distance
runner on the track in the world at the moment. He likely will win a big one
this year in the outdoor season. |

Bill Spivey scored 22 points and an ailing Cliff Hagan sparked the Wildcats
to their third NCAA title.
With a squad consisting of only six healthy players - Walt Hirsch was
ineligible and Hagan was plagued by an infected throat - the Wildcats hardly
looked like championship material as Kansas State broke out to a 20-12 lead.
It was then that Rupp inserted the ailing Hagan. It was a move that may have

发帖数: 31446 | 45 这个，我想熊猫饭最有发言权，不过估计最近一两年丫忙着哄孩子，没功夫上来贫。我
个人比较不全面的感觉，大概就是近二十年，Duke最牛，三十年，北卡最牛，四十年
Kentucky最牛。UCLA是个现象，也永远不会再发生了。其实你看看NCAA男篮获胜场数的
排名也能看出些门道，到目前为止，第一是Kentucky，第二是KU(这个赛季才把北卡超
过的吧），第三是北卡，第四是Duke。
所以Duke近二十年最牛完全是因为Coach K。我觉得Duke的篮球辉煌是从老K来了以后开始
的，所以也就是二三十年的历史，在之前，好像不是很有名。KU按冠军数来说，才三次
（还有两次还不三次是在NCAA还没成立的时候拿的），但我觉得KU最牛的是在教练的培
养上，毕竟那里是篮球的起源。美国大学篮球最牛博伊的两个大教练树，一个是
Kentucky的Coach Rupp，另一个是北卡的Coach Smith，都是从KU这棵大树长出了两个
树杈，这两个人又带出了很多的徒子徒孙。老K是从愤怒的Coach Knight那里长出的吧。 |

发帖数: 31446 | 48 又查了一下，大部分的解释是，其实KU和UK这两个名字毫无关联。我们是在19世纪晚期
开始出现KU这个称呼，包括在美国大学里最早最著名的那首校歌里“Rock,Chalk,
Jayhawk! Go KU!". 一种解释是KU在音律上比UK更上口些。所以，KU这个称呼从那时候
就开始了。另外一个不是很官方的解释是说美国中部的大学很多都习惯于用这样的排列
，比如CU、MU（Mizzu）、NU、OU，都是把州名放在前面。
底下有一个相片，是当年Rupp带着Kentucky到Allen Field House打球的时候，他和他
的导师Forrest“Phog” Allen拍的。注意看篮球上的字，还是“KU vs KU", 证明起码
到50年代的时候，肯塔基也是称自己为KU的。
我说的注册，是KU对那首校歌的注册，那个注册是美国最早的关于校歌的注册，而那首
歌里，就已经带有KU了。
当然了，关于这两个称呼没有一个所谓的官方解释，都是约定俗成的东西。其实这种大
学的简称基本只用在体育运动中，学术上要是这么写，估计要被导师给毙掉。KU的篮球
历史最早，所以这个称呼也流传的比较早且广泛。 |

It looks to me the two coaches tried to make it Funny because Rupp played in
KU and it does not mean the University of Kentucky was called KU at that
time. The KU vs. KU might mean KU's coach vs. former KU's player.
It's really meaningless to argue who owned the name first. Who won more games
means more. |
