整天嘲笑烙印只会做PPT，却没有意识到人家是怎么抢credit，怎么上位、怎么为自己

我用的是MacBook Pro 13”2009，MiniDisplay -》VGA，连上一个应该比较古老的投影
仪后，笔记本屏幕就很难设置了，而且没有办法显示presenter display
请问有没有什么解决办法？ 我自己在家HDMI连接一个外接显示器就好好的 |

接到Rotary Club的邀请，在他们的午餐聚会间隙提供一个presentation。本来我不是

最近听columbia的姜纬的presentation。我看她的简历上写的她是复旦毕业的，那应该
不是ABC，本科学的也不是英文。她的英文超级超级好啊！用词都超级sophisticated。

The interview committees want me to do a presentation, but the problem is I
already graduated a few years ago and the research topic is not really
relevant to the job except the techniques. My previous working experience is
also not very relevant except instrument skills, and the work I did in
industry is mostly small projects in places like CRO and there is nothing
really could be integrated to present.

结果program chair发信来说想把文章定为invited talk。
我心说，我连个烂会议paper都没发过，这次也是投的poster，怎么就要我做invited
talk？看来会议也够烂。
话说回来，总归是好事，欣然接受。
要是poster，肯定就是我去参加了，也没老板什么事。但是现在升级了一点，所以这种
情况是老板去还是学生自己present？
反正我们老板二话没说是准备他去present的。

I have one urgent question about the onsite presentation:
The job requirements means the company want a guy using B method to model a
problem.
My thesis is using A method to do it. The problem is almost the same.
Also I just use B a little for this problem such as validate my A method via
comparing some results of B. I can not say I am expert in B, |

，这次也不例外，要做一个一小时的seminar。但是有个问题想请教一下大家。
我的研究背景和制药不是很相关，但是人家看中了我的技术技能。做presentation的时
候是主要讲我自己博士时期的research呢？还是应该讲讲我的技术在制药界的应用呢？
只讲自己的research怕不相关，人家听着不敢兴趣。讲制药方面的应用呢，又感觉有点
儿班门弄斧，怕招致凶残质疑。初步打算用一个slice介绍我做过的项目，然后挑两个
和制药需要的技术最相关的两个project讲讲，随便用三分之一的时间说说在制药领域
的应用。这样是否可以显示一下我在他们需要的领域做了一定的研究，显示一下诚意？
大牛们觉得这么做合适嘛？会不会觉得主题不够集中，不够有深度呢？

注重project的design，problem solving，thinking，和overall对该领域的理解。
technical skill要隐蔽地告诉大家，比如在不同的project里提到各种fancy技术，明
着讲science，同时暗示你掌握该技术。技术还可以在面对面的时候讲，不必浪费
presentation的时间。有一个例外，你的job侧重技术，比如protein engineering。 |

发帖数: 25 | 41 归来，根据自己的血泪教训，强烈建议以后有类似疑问的同学们参考deed3和xylose的
建议。一定要专，讲自己的research，不必考虑太多跟未来职位的联系。要相信既然人
家都选你进入on-site就看到了你的背景和预期的相符，所以大可不必浪费太多时间来
钻研或者担心match的问题。当然，一定的了解是必须的。就像大家之前说的，人家不
会期待你是这个行业的专家。作为入门级scientist这个职位，presentation更看重的
是对课题的定位、理解、解决问题的创新性思维、以及研究的深度。所以，讲博士课题
不会错。而且，有信心，表现也会轻松很多。至于研究背景和以后的关联，以及对这个
行业的了解，之后的one-to-one面试有的是机会说明。
真心希望后来的同学们吸取教训啊！我自己目测是跪了，HM直接提了present的topic问
题，所以至少他有concern。。。

他，他来批准。我现在的工作是学校的staff scientist, 很大一部分工作是做了外包
过来的industrial contracts（公司proprietary的研究内容）和学术界的合作项目（
没有正式contract). 这些课题都没有发表文章，或者只有会议abstracts 发表，但是
这些研究都跟我现在应聘的职位特别相关。我可以把这些课题拿出来作为我job talk
的内容么？我发表过的文章基本上是临床研究，和药厂做的东西有差距的。我现在只需
发一个presentation title 和abstract给hiring manager, 到时候会将slides 存在
flash drive 上带到公司去。请前辈指教！ |
