个纪念吧！
过了新年我来美国就整整5年了。我在美国这5年，大致可以分成前3年和后2年这两的阶
段。
3年实验室研究：来美国的初衷是要做科学家的。念Ph.D，做faculty，36岁之前发
nature 文章，然后退休。。。
现在想想那个时候的想法太简单了，确切的说那个时候不知道自己想干什么，只是有满
腔的热情想在美国干出一番事业来。3年的实验室工作，没有给我机会来实现Ph.D的梦
想，虽然发表了一些文章，也算小有成绩，但严酷的现实一次又一次强烈地冲击着我申
请课题，将来做faculty的决心。于是在周围朋友的引领下，发现了一条当医生的道路
。辞职的那一刻，我曾经怀疑过自己是不是在逃避，难道离开了科研这条路，我真的有
能力把当医生这条路走通吗？其实当时的我抱着走一步算一步的念头，对未来毫无信心
，总在想会不会医生没有当上，科研也耽误了，到头来竹篮打水一场空。然而工作也辞
了，复习材料也买了，那就开始看书吧！

PREMATCH可是没要到。没有向其他地方要先卖，权当人家不会给吧。决定走MATCH。不

One quick technical question: What do you absolutely have before you turn in
application on 09/01? Just step 1 score? Or step 1 plus CS/CK? How about
step 3? It sounds like that you will be fine as long as you have all those
scores before interview, not before application.

1， 对IMG不一定是坏事，因为prematch 其实对IMG是不公平的。为什么program 要给
你pre-matach？ 因为他觉得你是个好的applicant， 可能拿到更好program的offer
，所以想抢先留住你。
2，对需要签证的朋友可能不是好事，因为如果program 给你pre-match ，他们能有更
多时间给你办visa。 如果都挤在3月份以后，他们觉得给你办visa时间比较紧，至少会
收紧办visa的数量，尤其是H1B。
3，对差的program, 绝对是坏消息，因为越是差的program,越是滥发pre-match offer. |

电话主要内容是：
我们现在几乎面试结束了（！！）我们10月份面的你，觉得你很好，很适合我们。你所
特长的一二三点（亏她都记住了）我们都很需要，并且在我处因为什么什么，所以能够
发扬光大。你所追求的xx fellowship目标，我们会怎样怎样帮助你完成。（真是个真
诚的好PD!）给你6天时间考虑，过期我也爱莫能助。现在给你几个电话号码，希望你下
周x之前给我们答复。谢谢！
王PD是个很好的人，没想到在事隔多日的今天（2个多月了），她还会给我电话。非常
感谢！有点后悔当时没给人家写thank you email，也没有要prematch。就是告诉大家
，原来只要program看上你，不用太积极也会有收获。 |

just want to be a good pathologist practicing pathology, where u train
dosent make too much a difference, it is up to how hard u work; if you want
to work in academic, it matters alot. But for us, the most important is to
get into residency; you are not getting younger, next year u may not get
what u want either, may not even get offer from program you dont like ....

Predicting the Match market is not reliable. For example, last year, most
top programs over-estimated the situation, and the people stayed in the
Match all got good spots.
In principle, this year the market is similar to last year. Staying in Match
you may also get into the program you want.
我想，当年高考时，许多人也碰到过同样问题。是只进心仪大学还是先上大学再说。完
全取决于自我信心和忍受力。
一般病理10年毕业为限，当然也有不限的；若有phd， 科研不错，明年没过十年，还是
冒下险。 对于老CMG，还是prematch为选择。
