发帖数: 1467 | 3 今天有一个同胞到实验室interview, 有一点小小的感想，拿出来与大家share.
1， 英语不是母语是事实，但不要在作报告时说自己的英语不好。中国人习惯谦虚，但
老外真的不认同这一点。今天的同胞英语并不差，但说了"my english is still bad",
感觉不够自信，即使真这样认为，也不要在interview 时说。
2，talk 一个小时左右，但要做两手准备，各个实验室风格不一样。有的实验室习惯在
报告结束时再问问题，但我们组的习惯是组会报告时不停的提问题，interview的报告
也不例外，这样虽然交流的不错，但有时也会打断思路，而且时间会较长。如果有太多
的data，而又被打断多次时，要果断勇敢的要求先结束整个talk，如有具体的问题可以
过后交流，因为interview 大多会安排和组里的人谈的。主要是觉得思路被打断容易紧
张，准备的东西容易忘掉，影响发挥，而且有人提问喜欢究细节，不要和他们多纠缠。
今天同胞本有四个类容，但因为被打断次数太多，结果只谈了一个，挺可惜的。

I know how important a green card is for my family. The application process
is ongoing. i had thought to secure the green card first. But i am not
Young anymore. I had worked for many years in China in hospital. That is why
i stick to the clincal fellowship program. I am quite good at this job. I
even did not think about a 'faculty' position with 9 papers from my Ph D. (
one N/S/C) and 2 papers 'in press' from my 1.5 year of postdoct.

The startup usually has been setup for a uplimit by the committee. If you
are reasonable, the power is in Department chair's hand and he can make the
call. I see it as 3 parts when I was thinking about it.
For basic need, you can refer the NIHR01 supply and part of indirect cost
for covering the lab.
For personals, normally 1 student + 1 tech + 1 postdoct (3 year salary).
You do not have to mention how much it is. When you give them such a list,

some details based on my experience:
Matching is important! But what is the exactly meaning? My guess that one
can match in many ways or one need to match multiple standards, science,
personality, direction, and the situation of the specific institute.
Grant is the key. But how to identify the right one who has the potential
if he does not have active yet?

发帖数: 653 | 9 我博士后花了近半年分离了两个新菌株， 我想genome 测序。但我老板的合作者的博士
后一直想做这领域的工作，他和我老板有很多EMAIL 交流,我OUT OF loop。他没有做个
我的领域的相关的实验，一直忙着写grant。
最近突然想我要我工作汇报的SLIDE图，他要用他写GRANT,当然他也有他人的数据。
问题是但是他没有问我的兴趣， 我对这领域有也有很多想法。我也想以这些数据写
grant，好出山。不过由于家里有娃，忙着实验，写文章，没有focus on grant.
我自己的老板就不说了，任何grant call 多不告诉我，更不提trainning，但他对那个
postdoct 非常active应为合作者的势力大. 但毕竟是我的BOSS,我没不好有异议。
合作者美其名曰leverage. 我感觉被scoop， 我的名字在不在 grant 很难说， 这里有
没有ethic problem. 必经是自己博士后半年的EFFORT,不是技术员呀。不过我也不想
我的名字在那个grant 里面，免得reviewer 认为我也分钱了

学习了好多经验嘿嘿。上学时的我太贪玩，成绩不好所有考试只是保过就行呵呵，所有
玩的项目全精通哈哈，经常是各种团体主力军。其实来美就是想考版，可是真的没信心
，看了很多前辈的帖子，觉得大家都好强，相比之下我的基础实在太差太差，今年真心
想好好准备了，打算最晚明年初考试。我的kaplan note从来美就开始看一直到现在还
有行为没看呢，可想我的好学精神了吧呵呵。现在打算好好努力，想请教各位前辈，等
我把行为看完后是不是就开始做题呢，我觉得我的kaplan啥也没记住呵呵，这样做题是
不是没用啊。希望各位前辈给指导指导。希望可以多学习各位前辈的经验，虽然没有那
么牛，但是真的想挑战自己一下，不想虚度光阴！！另外我太太也和我一起准备考试，
我俩现在是个小组哈哈。她也是全职postdoct，我们的计划是两个人一起考step1， 我

发帖数: 135 | 12 请老军医等病理的前辈给看看，我这种情况今年能有interview的可能吗？
2000年毕业，2003国内硕士毕业，2003来美后家里蹲，2007年来到现在的实验室从
technician干到postdoct ,没有美国的任何学历。STEP1 221/STEP2 210/CS passed
1st attempt，但STEP3在今年以一分之差fail掉了，目前没有机会在申请前考掉STEP3.
推荐信4封，其中3封来自MD/pHD,一封来自PhD。9篇so,so的paper,其中3篇第一作者。
现在跟着儿医作门诊的OB。请前辈们说说我的情况能被筛选进interview的大军行列吗?
BTW:以community hospital为主。 |
