啦,一个frog,一个owl。其实那个owl的很久就看见过,当时很喜欢,结果逛街的时候
又发现还有个frog跟owl在一起,顿时就哪一个也割舍不下了,就一并收了来。
还不知配什么衣服好看,但觉得光这么摆着看也特别好看,像工艺品一样,尤其是那个
frog,身上是三种不同的绿色,闪闪的很漂亮。

其实厨房还没有 finish。这一块,头续多,工作琐碎,花得心思多,反而还有不少 美
中不足的心病等着 fix。版上有姐妹想看,就也秀出来了。顺便听听建议。
before -
原来的厨房,一看就是二三十年前的装修。几个 keywords:白色小磁砖,厚重的陶瓷
sink,陈旧的橱柜,老式的顶灯。。。都是必须要重做的。
而且,抽油烟机装在island 正中,老式厨房的顶本来就矮,只有7尺半,弄这么个庞然
大物,把什么都block了,一眼看着就难受。
地上铺的磁砖,我也不喜欢。 厨房 跟 family room 是整体打通连贯的,我喜欢从地
面感觉上也是连贯通畅的,况且我一直以来习惯了厨房用地板,温馨一点。只要勤打扫
就好了。
构想 -
首先决定改变结构,想把 range hood 挪到厨房侧面,这样管道也要改一下,跟
contractor 沟通了一下, 看看了房檐和外墙,他说没问题。
这样 Island 就变得更加 visible 了 ,灶台移走了,island 从面积上讲也会更实用
。想做成两头有弧线的。希望从 family room 看过去是漂亮的柜子,而不是侧面的... 阅读全帖 |

一次我小孩做Beestar网上数学练习,一道很简单的题却丢了两分. 仔细看后我认定是
Beestar的答案不对.为了小孩这星期能上光荣榜, 我开始和Beestar 辩论. 那个题目大
致是这样的:
Casey’s family visited the Franklin Park Zoo. An 18-foot giraffe there was
the tallest animal they saw. Casey was 4.5 feet tall. How many times taller
was the giraffe than Casey? 四个选择是: A. 3, B. 4, C. 5, and D. 6
显然18除以4.5等于4, 长颈鹿是凯西的4 倍, 就是说长颈鹿比凯西高三倍. 我小孩照我
以前讲的这个道理选的是A(3倍). 但Beestar的标准答案却是B(4倍). 在国内小学时,
区分"是多少倍"和"多多少倍"是反复强调练习过的基本功. 长颈鹿的高度是凯西的4 倍

这鸟儿的学名来自拉丁语:Branta canadensis,从这个名字变化一下就是英文里的
Canada goose,德文里的“Kanadagans”和法文里的“Bernache du Canada”。而这个

我觉得从语源上讲动物的命名比较合理。不过把一种动物或者习俗附会上名人、神迹,
在各文化里都很常见的。

今天无聊翻查了一下Aug 7th-Sep 18th的Sunday NY Times wedding广告,随手做一下
统计。因为拿Madonna或Donald Trump来说事都不靠谱。
NY Times wedding上一般的人都是比较受过教育(虽然Harvard和cum laude出现比例高
了一点),家庭体面的中产阶级到上层中产阶级,一般这个阶层都是愿意结婚,婚姻稳
定,离婚率低(对于其他阶层而言),着重儿女教育,婚姻和个人形象甚至前途有关,
体面的生活一代传一代,即不象底层那么不顾体面胡乱婚配,也不象极富有的人那么
afford得起轻率的结婚离婚的。基本上那里可以作为受过教育的主流社会的一个侧影,
研究一下他们的婚姻(和他们的学校职业,父母的职业等)也能领略一下他们的人情世
故。它山之石,可以给这里征婚的人计划将来时作一个参考,可以尽量避免进入容易将
来让自己儿女觉得尴尬的婚姻(父母的婚姻和主流社会相比太奇怪的话,儿女会从小就
