2010 Knoxville Dragon Boat Race will take place on June 26, 2010 at the
Cave at Concord Park (11808 S. Northshore Drive 37922). The revenue and
donations from this event will go to Knoxville Area Rescue Mission which
serves meals to homeless people in the Knoxville area.
Representing Chinese communities at East Tennessee, the "Dragon's
Descendants" team has registered for the race. A total of 21 paddlers |

before, many people that I know speak highly of him.
It is a class V rapid, and Bill was try to rescue a swimmer or a float-away
boat when fell off a fall. Autopsy indicate that he died of broken neck.

group. This paddler in very back of team should be familiar with rescue
skills and respond as soon as less experienced people get into trouble.
More often than not, the middle boat should also take the above
responsibility whenever required.
For the above trip, one double boat was trapped among rocks for a little
while right at the beginning of a rapid. Fortunately, nobody fell into water

chanllenge the authoritives... Now I know its real name.
Anyway, as I was told by the paddlers/rafters/anglers alike, the upper
stream has more rapid current and violent waves, whereas the down stream
beyond Monroe tend to be wider, and water is not as violent as upper stream.
Anyway, the section we happened to paddle is suitable for entry level
paddlers like me. YOU JING WU XIAN is good enough. |

发帖数: 3975 | 11 我们测试过35度的水和空气加大风, 3MM的WETSUIT, 落水6-7人, 2-5M, WETSUIT起到很
关键作用, 保证了没有失温, 但上岸后如何舒服, 划船同学自己去处理把. 我的目标是
不出人命, 离失温越远越好.
如果不是NENANA这种大河(高VOLUME和多急流), 人在水里>10M的机会很少, 尤其是救援
有保障的TEAM.
我自己在DRYSUIT有DEAL时还是打算买一件, 多一种保护的办法.
还有DRYSUIT用起来对PADDLER并不方便, 大概适合空气低温+水低温+很多浪花的情形, 对爱出汗的同学不是什么太好东西,实用效果DRYSUIT比2-3MM WETSUIT更不透气, WETSUIT可以加减衣服方便, 而且用泼河水减温, DRUSUIT限制了人自由.
对PADDLERS, WETSUIT往往不是FULL SUIT而是3MM FARMER JOHN +1-2MM上衣为最长见搭配.3MM FARMER JOHN+1-2MM上衣+SEMI-DRY 估计适合ALASKA一般CASE.

i totally agree, for a good paddler, it is much easier to control the boat
when kayaking.
Rafting really pushes the limit. You are paddling on the edge of losing
control. Call me crazy but there are people loving those feelings.

发帖数: 1189 | 26 就事论事，missing kayaker Guan准备工作上至少有以下需要改进的地方：
1.Guan用的是朋友的kayak，我估计Guan paddle的也是陌生的waterway。solo
kayaking对kayaker的要求是很高的。无论陌生的水道，还是是熟悉的waterway，都不
提倡一个人划。
2.Guan穿的是jeans，非常不适合watersport。
3.Guan上午11am出发，本预备下午1am回来（吃午饭？）。在海上很快就饿了。
个人认为，guan是个没有多少经验的paddler。
反观我们每次活动，见多识广的Muyang老大都把安全放在第一位。比如有一次trip
我们原定划的河道突然涨水，老大就立刻重新勘察，找到新的河道。等大家到了新的下
水点，把着装和船set up好，已经比原计划下水晚了一个多小时，近中午时分。这时老
大没有因为晚点而急着下水，而是下令大家先吃东西....当时可能还有人不理解，开玩
笑说我们是出来picnic的（～3hrs的车程，大家都是8am前出门的）。

简单的说,"大船"是筏,笨重但是stable.会搁浅....或者掉下去,但是轻易不会翻.
小船那就是水能载舟能覆舟的"舟",随水流重心会不断变化,在激流是尤其需要paddler
有很强的控船技术.没有经过training和practice的话,在pocono只有一个结果___不断
翻船. |

A sound boat bottom is crucial for a paddler. Avoid any possible damage.
Never drag/push any boat on land if you can carry them.
Paddling is all about team work. Never paddle alone. It takes more than one
people to carry/protect boats.
The right way to carry the boat.
1.There is one grab in front and one in the end of the boat.
2.Putting your paddle in the boat when carrying them. |

For a group (a dozen also boats), we need three experienced and skillful
paddlers.
1. Group leader(boat) should always remain in the front. A leader must know
how to "read the water".Notify the rest of the team if any hazard area is in
front.
Also, the leading boat MUST slow down the pace of faster boats whenever the
rapid is over and some boat is in trouble and left behind. Always keep in
mind, rafting or any kind of whitewater paddling is all about teamwork, not
racing at a |

a canoe. In this sense, a canoe is more stable than a kayak.
If you are just by yourself, you need to be at least able to do "J-strokes"
to steer a canoe with a canoe paddle. |

from the above link, I found there are many white water rivers in Wisconsin,
usually safer than NE ones and much safer than the ones in Western state.
However the first step is very critical which is to understand the danger of
rafting or kayaking and do couple class II or III trips with the
experienced. Then it is much safer. But still long way. If you guys can find
5-8 Chinese paddlers as a group, the chance might be real. |
