我也想听听有没有OLAP以外的办法。
另外想提的就是OMNITURE，和google analytics .
微软的OLAP应该不贵，性价比还不错。open source 的也有，如pentaho cube, 不过一
分钱一分货吧。
weblog 这玩意本身就是一个多维数据，用OLAP可以解决很多aggregation 的计算，
data mart 有十几个表就差不多了。什么dimension hierarchy, aggregation 让OLAP
来完成就容易多了。按照时间或其它的attribute 也狠容易建立partition, 所以
scaling 应该不是大问题。
如果公司请人做OLAP的话，帮我递个简历吧，短期的也行啊，哈哈 |

对，瓶颈不在"分析web log."而在“把当天的xml和已有的历史文件（也是xml）
累积(是merge,不是简单的加)生成一个新的历史文件xml”这步。
前一年还好，现在客户多了，访问的量大了。累积量也大了，
历史文件 里 userID， url等 好多。没法parse了。
xml设计不是我做的。但现在要我重新设计。
客户需求类似于OLAP。
举个例子: userID_$attr1_$attr2_$attr3_$attr4：
$attr１ 包括 上传｜下传
$attr2 包括 各种 各种手机电脑类型 包括 爱风 | 安猪｜...
$attr3 包括 用户的 content 类型 包括 图型 | 文本 | 视频 | ...
$attr4 包括 公司的东西。 attr4A | attr4B | attr4C | attr4D | ...
例如 monthly report of userID_下传_爱风_视频_attr4A 目的是求：
每月有多少爱风手机用户下传attr4A的视频。注意每个符合要求的用户string都要存在

Dba可能要相对轻松，没有过多development。工作比较routine。有了问题需要trouble
shoot. 优化。可能要on call.
Bi 的相对要挑战一些，需要面对business user, analyst等客户。需要一定的
business knowledge, 数据库的model，olap方面的知识，ms的olap tool是analysis
service(ssas), 另外通常从oltp转入olap, 大多会用到ssis,ms 的etl tool, 但也见
过用tSQL 做的。再者就是做报表，用ssrs 啦。一般也不复杂。
觉得dba做闷了学点新东西也不错。 |

我是玩MS BI的，觉得这个DW/BI的意义不完全在于能否取得数据，而是在于能否给予用
户(我这儿一般是business analyst ) analytical capabilities.
对于搞数据库的，可能我们写两行Code就能解决问题了，但一般analyst 没这个能力。
我们做个CUBE，把数据放入Olap Engine, 这样Analyst 可以轻松的用Olap Browser获
取资料，做他们的的Analysis。个人觉得性价比最高的OLAP BROWSER，莫过于MS Excel
了。谁都会用，基本免费(因为基本大家都有)。
虽然这个好似对Job Security 不好，不过大势所趋。

i am not sure if db2 has any olap support, most likely just a db engine.
Cognos does have olap support, depends on version, and it should support
molap, which will perform the best, though require storage.
with hundreds of million records you could see pretty significant
performance increase over traditional dbms based on mid range modern
hardware. but its all relative. definitely worth the effort the try
dimensionalize the data if frequent access is needed. |

要是知道mobile developement， sharepoint就更好了。
olap，jsf，ajax，html/javascript/css， sql all plus。
当然junior没期待那么多。
有opt也可以，能sponsor H1如果有名额的话，绿卡也是有可能的。
公司50人左右吧，企业文化很好，每年有5%bonus左右，而且会有类似ipad 的酷gadegt
作为每
