OBHR basically applies knowledge from fundamental social science disciplines
such as economics, sociology, psychology, to organization problems.
Stress and job satisfaction are also OBHR topics.
Within psychology, other disciplines do not respect I/O because

Compare to OBHR, I/O psych is not as broad.

maybe they are conducted from different perspectives, e.g. I/O from
psychological point and OBHR from ... how to increase organizations’ profit?

我讲workplace harassment associate with job strain
他一个助理教授居然不懂
这个在i-o算人尽皆知
由此可见,研究生阶段训练差别之大
psychology就是psychology,研究角度不一样
psychology注重motivation,self-esteem,big-five等等individual difference或
trait,及一些对以上产生影响的situational variables(比如,job
characteristics,role stressors),obhr就不一样了,这个是偶和那个proff谈了后
知道的,直观认识,但偶没学过obhr,只能意会他们学些什么东西,反正肯定不一样,
感兴趣的hr的同学就和上面的对对号,看是不是一样,偶不想conclusive,也许在不同
的学校接受训练不一样,但你整天说两者一样偶不敢恭维 |

Then I sincerely hope you can be more open minded, especially to
OBHR since they are at least relevant fields.
Your future is long and if you decide to pursue a PHD in the future,
it doesn't hurt to have a better understanding of relevant field such
as OBHR. |

I/O psy graduates may secure a very decent job in business schools if you
focus on such areas as leader-member exchange, transformational leadership,
servant leadership, organizational commitment & turnover, performance
appraisal, and so on...
i strongly suggest LZ to check the profile of those OBHR faculties in the
business school. you may find a significant portion of them are from I/O.
and i can tell ya that the start-up salary for an assistant prof in OBHR |

其他的top psych programs要么已经kill了他们的i/o programs,
比如OSU, NYU, Cornell, Berkeley, George Mason, 要么就是有这个趋势。
比如UIUC。不知道bowling green在干嘛。
I/O作为传统心理学科之一,目前是内忧外患不断,处于生死存亡的关头。
内忧是社会心理学的崛起,外患是商学院OBHR的兴起。其中商学院的冲击尤甚,
因为工资更高,但做的是一样的东西。

siop查查,i-o难道就那么几个学校???当然,有一点是很有趣,有i-o的学校综合排
名普遍不高是真的
哪个说只要商学院OBHR毕业的就工资一定高,
工资高低要看你就业方向,做faculty去商学院工资是高点,但相当一部分是去了咨询
公司,Aon等大的咨询公司又不是只要商学院的 |

I/O是个solid的学科,你们当然不会out of job.但这个和学科的发展是两回事。
其它的I/O schools还有MSU和PSU。嗯,居然忘了maryland。太不应该了。
另外还有gatech.
OSU原来也是前三。前前系主任还是I/O的,不一样说砍就砍。
NYU排名也很高。更不要说Berkeley。
关于学科内容的问题,我和很多人讨论过。我的观点是:
I/O研究的东西,OBHR都研究。反之则不成立。
有空儿来AOM conference看看吧。拓宽一下视野。 |

Micro OB topics: leadership, motivation, team dynamics,
conflict and negotiation, etc.
HR: recruitment, selection, training and development, career management,
compensation, work-family issues, rentention, etc.
Name one area that I/O studies and OBHR doesn't. |

我理解你以I/O为自豪的心情,不过还是实事求是好一点。
人家谦虚一下而已。
stress的确是I/O的人研究的多一些,Cary Cooper, Paul Spector等。
但是也不见得尽人皆知。OBHR研究这个得人的确少一些。 |
