inside the building was almost the same as her previous apartment, the

It is next to the University of Louisiana campus. About 20+ years ago I
lived there. Nice place.
The only problem is -- if you frequently have friend visitors, car parking
need to be careful. Each apartment only has one parking space.
By the way, the University Place is at walking distance to the UL, but
Campus Crossing is more than walking distance. |

Acads or High Technology (only 1). Those schools are usually ranked at the

Tenafly did fine but not great.

的城市现状什么的，是继续保持过去时态还是转现在时？ |

绝大部分的小说都使用过去时的，这样从讲故事叙述的角度可能更自然些
新近小说特别是网上作品用现在时的比较多，但很多属于实验性质，潮流了一段，很多
作者又回归了。而且如果要发表的话，据说editor一般都会要求改成过去式，有没有高
手确认一下，不是有几位同学上过写作课吗，来说说？
自己的感觉，也是过去时比较顺溜。有人说现在时能造成一种紧张或者身临其境的感觉
，我倒没太觉得。看有人提到Capote的A Christmas Memory是用的现在时，却要用现在
时写，难怪我看的时候有点别扭，当时没有意识到，原来多半是这个时态的原因。。。
不过俺的英文还停留在努力看懂的阶段，完全没有语感，或许其中的妙处没有读出来 |

的。比如说：
Fig. X shows blah blah. Tab. Y suggests blah blah.
过去式经常被用来批评别人的。比如说：
Previously , it was believed that... Now we know that actually ...
在 intro 里，总结别人的工作时，想抬高的，可以悄悄用现在完成时或者现在时；想贬
低的，可以搞成过去式。

整体肯定多数都是过去时，毕竟说故事的说的都是已经发生过的事情，所以过去时最吻
合。但是说着说着说到一些客观的景物描写或者存在状态，比如说世贸twin tower，"
They do not exit in New York any more." 是应该用现在时还是过去时？

观描述依然用过去时，但若要强调某些状态的客观性，比如说一个城市有多少人多么著
名，某图书馆藏书多少之类的，就可转用现在时。 |

很一样。时态转换，我学的是：要维持一个清晰的 time frame，每次做 time frame s
hifting 的时候，都尽可能用显式转换。比如说：
It happened near the twin towers -- well, now the towers no longer exist in
New York any more -- but by that time they were landmarks of NYC.
用了清晰的 time frame 的转换标志： now 和 by that time。
再比如：Every winter there are some cold days, but in the winter of 2001
every day was bone-chilling for Ann。 |
