不同，Zion给人更多的是依山伴水，峡谷悠远深邃的感觉。有人说，这个公园单调，走
马观花半天足以；也有人说，这个公园很值得一游，爬山涉水，感受hiking的乐趣。我
不是个hiking fan，不过为了领略风景的hiking我也是从来乐此不疲的，所以走马观花
游就免了，Zion要游，而且还要游个彻底。
去Zion的前天晚上住在了Mesquite， NV。三个原因：1）性价比；2）离Vegas两小时的
车程，免去了我们长时间疲劳开夜车，离Zion也只有1小时车程；3）想白天领略开车穿
越 Virgin River Canyon的感觉。果然，白日里穿行在Virgin River Canyon很独特，
一个接着一个的弯道，小车在地势险峻的峡谷中前行，行车观景相得益彰。说起来，这
里因为靠近内华达，所以还没展示犹他独特的红土地貌，山还是青棕色，待到真正在UT
开行一段时间之后就明显的感受到周围的土地山峦都变成了红色——犹他的红土地。

从定下工作，就一直在计划着这次机会难得的毕业road trip--带着妈妈从西雅图开车
到哥伦布。因为北线的冰川和黄石已经去过多次，所以决定这次经过盐湖城走南线经过
犹他州的几个国家公园然后沿I70一路向东到哥伦布。颇费思量的是在景点数目和沿途
时间中寻找一个平衡点。权衡再三决定主要游玩Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Rocky
Mountain四个国家公园，以及沿途的其他景点与城市，总共十天。时间有限没能去
Grand Canyon算是一个遗憾，也算是给下次再回西部留下一个理由。
想起六年前第一次踏上美国的土地就是在西雅图，留下了太好的第一印象。以至于之后
每去一个新城市都会感觉，比起西雅图还是差的太远。Mount Rainier National Park
之前已经去过两次，所以这次选择去之前未到过的Sunrise区域。时间有限仅仅是稍作
停留走马观花罢了。好在天公作美看到了山顶，也算是不虚此行吧.

觉得being open minded的去尝试别人的文化，是一件很有意思的事情。
但是发现有很多我的中国mm朋友们就不会喜欢这样，比如我约她们也一起去试试参加印
度的盛大festival，一起跟着体验一下那种印度唱唱跳跳节日的感觉，或者是一起跟某
国人去吃某国菜，或参与跟他们的文化背景相关的活动等等。。。很多人都比较抵触
step out of their comfort zone。也没尝试过，就不愿意敞开胸怀去体验一把。觉得
自己不是其中的“一份子”，就不愿意去当作半个旁观者+半个参与者的心态去参加各
种activity。

么时候吧，反正迟早是要落嘀。
另外各个国家公园的打分完全是主观的，和心情，季节，同行等等有关，仅仅提供参考。
ZION：4 STAR
TRAILS：ANGELS LANDING，THE NARROWS，THE SUBWAY，CANYON OVERLOOK，
OBERVATION POINT（听说，没去过），LOWER EMERALD POND。
ZION是小驴去的最多的国家公园，当然家门口的SHENANDOAH除外。由于离LAS VEGAS只
有不到3个小时的路程，ZION开发的较很多其他国家公园好，有几条很出名的TRAIL。
ZION峡谷是由处女河（VIRGIN RIVER）千万年斧凿而成，所以山水相映，大部分有名
气的TRAIL不是跋山就是涉水，不入其中便不能赏其秀美险峻。最有名的恐怕就是
ANGELS LANDING，THE NARROWS，OBSERVATION POINT，CANYON OVERLOOK，SUBWAY

Indeed, there are many Ph.D. programs that can be closed. The first one on

毫无疑问这是美国爬山涉水最漂亮的地方之一，却木有旅行社去，
原因：不适合大群人（包括一部分老小）玩，地形险要，容易滑倒。其实也不是危险的
地方，只要不下雨不发大洪水是没有生命危险的。全世界带游客走完the narrows全程
的旅游公司也许有，但是没有那么几个。美国这样的地方还是很多。旅行社都是贪图方
便便利，一个大峡谷只去玻璃桥瞄一眼，路途经过的胡服大坝被他们吹成一道奇观了。
跟一些资深旅游业人士说过这个问题，不是没有人想到过，很多人都想到过，很多人也
尝试过。也许我在这里幼稚的发言就是因为我没有尝试过。他们都尝试过，说发现根本
行不通，为什么？国内的旅行社是不能卖这样的产品的。倒是驴友们自己在论坛上组团
而行倒是有的。为什么？你知道的，南京大妈摔倒了你过去把她扶起来，她还要一口咬

加，场面热闹非凡。
本次野餐会将由北京大学校友会和复旦大学校友会联合主办。它将开松竹梅野餐会由三
大校友会以外的校友会参与主办的先河，也标志着松竹梅野餐会以开放的姿态，热忱欢
迎所有学校的校友们的到来！
今年的松竹梅野餐会将于11月9日（周六）上午10:30在景色宜人的Whittier Narrows公
园举行。Whittier Narrows公园位于South El Monte, 是洛杉矶地区著名的休闲公园。
园内林木成荫，碧波荡漾，漫步其中令人心旷神怡。

Back in NYC, we'd tip $20 per mover if they did a good job and didn't damage
the furniture or the walls. Coffee and donuts, or pizza, also help. It's
all about the respect.

Woodland Hills (LA) on top floor of a 3 level complex with no elevator to

真正的narrow group interest。从而深入到挑战这个法案的建设性。另外，在美国，
没有什么narrow group interest一说，每个个体都值得尊重，这是所谓人权。
对于不设quota，质疑是：不扩大总招生数，但要多元化，还要不设quota，不减少亚裔
学生，如何具体实现？
race分化到这么细，除了按race比例招生本身是歧视，还有一个问题，多重混血儿如何
算种族－－
