的事情。
motivation不强，那就少运动些，别一点不动。从你的网名看你喜欢游泳，或者说曾经
喜欢。那么美国的学校游泳环境应该不错吧，那就每两天游一次，每次200米？100米也
行！感觉你的动作使得水推着你前进，享受人在水中运动时水流经身体的触觉。然后不
要犹豫，不要想游得是不是太少了，径直上岸冲澡！别人如果问“只游这么短”你就说
“差点忘了件重要的事！”这时候你体会一下运动后肌体的快感，告诉自己完成了一项事情。并奖励自己，比如和
朋友出去看电影。
两个星期后你会有更多的motiviation。在以后你自己可以渐渐加大运动量，但仍然不
要贪多。注意奖励自己。买一块自己爱吃的巧克力。就像别人不知道你的痛苦和内心的
其他活动，他们也不懂得你在这种情况下还能坚持运动，自我帮助是多么的不易！
别说你连这点motivation都没有，你不是上网来发帖子问了吗，这不也是motivation吗
？行动会加强你的motivation，并扩展到其他事情上去。

就是2011年美国有2918.12件种族仇恨犯罪。
这样的报告肯定是已经大大缩水了的，因为我们都知道华人被种族原因犯罪侵犯的事件
FBI基本都不会以仇恨犯罪记录的。
可见因为种族因素在美国受到犯罪侵害实际上是很普通的一件事。对其他那些强势少数
族裔比如黑人，印度人，等等，可能就是仅仅敢打骂，可是对不受到司法正义保护的华
人，发生谋杀就是很必然的了。
至少比中国一家人因为妒忌发生的谋杀犯罪概率高多了。
可是有的华人却一心希望是华人内部由于妒忌一类发生的谋杀。这种想要自我安慰的心
情是可以理解的。但是希望不要真的误导了自己和他人。还是做好准备保护自己吧。

susy的话，那么在更高的能标即使有susy也还是会有弱hierarchy问题，这当然不是不

前两点简历和其他申请材料里可以看出不少，面试的时候我会侧重于后两点。
关于motivation，我会比较详细地问他/她为什么对这个方向感兴趣，对这个方向以及
我本人的研究了解多少，入学之后有什么打算，比如什么时候开始发文章、预期什么时
候毕业等，毕业之后有什么打算。比较motivated的学生会在面试之前做些功课，网上
能看到的东西会看一些，对今后打算多少有些想法，谈起来也会显得比较engaged。
悟性比motivation考察起来要稍微容易一些，主要是给讲讲big picture性质的问题，
比如自己研究的大致框架，然后看看学生的response上不上路，特别是要看有没有比较
抽象、接近于理论层面上的见解。 |

俺觉得好老师有三个层次，
第一个层次，能把知识或者指示高效率地传递给学生，
高效率指的是简介明了，不易误解
这个首先自己脑子要清楚，知识或者目标非常明确，
其次要求有一定的表达技巧，
比如重点突出，层次分明，逻辑连贯等，
能做到这些就算是个好的老师了，这个层次自己多练习就可以达到

最多补充一两个问题检验一下，马上就知道学生卡在哪一步了，
然后也知道怎么帮学生克服障碍，正确理解知识或者指示
这个需要一定的沟通技巧，需要和不同的学生多练习，然后自己总结提高
最高的一个层次，就是会motivate学生
让学生有自主地努力学习或者工作的动力，
这样老师也省事，学生学习工作的效率也高

俺觉得这个层次是老师的最佳位置，
不断给学生提供学术上的支持和鼓励，师生关系也更融洽

就算自带motivation，如果使用不当，慢慢motivation也就没了
这样的例子周围有很多
而很多学生的motivation是后天发掘出来的，俺当年就是这样的学生 |

拿了T，感觉和拿绿卡差不多，有点释然的感觉，但是主要的感觉还是经过这么多年，
早已不象当初那种不死不休的感觉了。
先说点基本情况，我们学校虽然是个破学校（没有排名的学校，能申请NSF RUI），我
又在化学这么个破坑里面，但是T的要求基本等同于排100左右的学校的要求（学校差但
架不住愿意来的人多），我4年结束时候交材料基本情况是：基金大概拿了50几万（其
实就一个像样的），文章发了17篇（IF平均大概5，最好的两篇通讯作者都是8），组里
有4个博士，培养了大概7，8个硕士，另外还有些book chapter之类的工作。教课是标
准的2+2每年，我的教学评分一般都是中上 （4.0-4.5/5），没有太差也不突出（我们
这里教课好的老师很多）.去年交了材料以后又发了10几篇文章（我的合作者太能干）
，不过我已经知道自己肯定能过，就没有刻意加到材料里面
1）心态
云老师是标准的路色，博士毕业一直混到开始TT整整9年，36岁开始TT还在一个地区大
学，41了才拿到T，我现在完全已经没有年少时的轻狂了。好处就是我的心态现在已经

1) what is your lg's motive for start up? some ppl do it for the love of
technology, some do it for the money, some do it for the prestige... it

the case, your lg may never be happy as there will always be ppl who made it

身体方面的早教其实没啥特别的，就是多给娃机会。可以参照郭建国的亲自操，我感觉
那个比杜曼的还有意思些。
至于认字，数学，右脑开发这方面的东西我倒是斟酌再三，研究了半天才决定教的。
我当时是先把可能的坏处能想的都想了
1。占用娃的时间，影响身体或是其他方面的发展，让娃失去了美好的童年
实际情况是每天5-10秒的时间一个session，每天几个session不等，时间加起来
不超过几分钟，一点不会影响娃的时间，该干什么还干什么。但是我需要提前把东西准
备好，需要每天一些时间。
2。大了以后优势就没有了，泯然众人
最大不了不也就是“泯然众人”吗？也不是很差。仲永同学他爹如果让仲永同学
继续好好学习而不是到处炫，说不定也是个大诗人。
3。学东西快，所以认为什么都来得很容易，没有motivation
motivation来自什么呢？这是个挺难说的问题。motivation和success谁先谁后，
我觉得是现有鸡还是先有蛋的问题。不过这一点在以后的教育中要注意，告诉自己也告

这个问题上我的态度是前后有180度的转变的。
怀孕的时候就想，我家娃才不学这个学那个，就好好玩。说话早晚，走路早晚都没关系
，健康快乐最重要，我不要培养什么小神童。神童有什么好的？要么后来泯然众人，要
么社交方面出问题。所以除了因为我自己喜欢看书给他买了些布书和board book以外，
没有任何想法和行动。
娃生下来以后我看了好多书，让我思想发生转变的是Glenn Doman的一套书：gentle
revolution。包括How smart is your baby? （专门讲娃的头一年）How to teach
your baby to be physically superb? How to teach your baby to read? How
to
teach your baby math?
Doman，国内翻译成杜曼。杜曼老人家是个physical therapist，研究brain injure的
娃的。他们通过运动等方法给brain injure的宝宝作理疗。效果非常好，原来不能动不
