Edgar is a 7-time All-Star, led league in hitting twice, RBI once, OBP 3
times, OPS once. These are all pretty significant number.
Paul Molitor? He was a 7-time all-star and led league in those categories
exactly zero times.
Not saying Paul Molitor is not a good player. He got a long career and put up
some beautiful stats. However, in the term of hitter, Edgar is way better than
Molitor.
And Paul Molitor gets into HOF not because his fielding ability, but his bat
as a DH.
I am really surprising

Much more impressive numbers? Edgar Martinez?
Well, I had no chance to watch Paul Molitor playing... but from
baseball-reference.com... I have the impression that Paul Molitor is a much
more HOF worth player...3000 hits is a milestone like 300 wins or 500 HRs
(lets say, 5 years ago)...
As one of the voter says: you cannot ignore those milestones when you cast
your vote.... Edgar Martinez has no such milestones
And as for the DH issue, one of the voter says: Paul was an athletic player...

First thing, Edgar Martinez has played quite some 3B before his injuries
killed his fielding career. Being the best DH of all time does not necessarily
mean Edgar is a pure DH. It's not his fault to have to play as a DH and excel
in it.
Second, let's do a comparison of these two guys' stats:
Edgar Martinez:
6727AB, .315/.423/.525 297HR 1198RBI SB 48/30
Paul Molitor:
10835AB, .306/.369/.448 234HR 1307RBI SB 504/131
Granted, Molitor got 3000+ hits, but you guys may not know Babe Ruth, despite

Molitor is a player with 3000 hits... he deserves HOF.
Martinez is a player with higher OBP than Molitor, so he deserves HOF?
HOF is all about dominace and endurance... Has Martinez ever been the most
dominant hitter in his team? Just name some major category, Martinez dominates
his peer major leaguers.
Again, in Martinez's era, there are too many 'good' hitters.when the voters
cast their votes, they defintely compare him with his peer players , jr,
bonds, big mac, bagwell, biggio, piazza, belle,

Another comment: it's true that Paul Molitor did play a lot of game as a
fielder, but his several most productive season comes from the DH slot.
Without his offensive number in DH, he has not a remote shot at HOF.
His 5 best seasons (in term of Run Created) is 1993, 1991, 1996, 1987 and
1992.
Only in 1987 he played about 40% games as a fielder, all the other years he's
basically a DH.

我很久以前还看过alomar 跟molitor同场竞技, 那时候还是一teen,完全不懂规则,开始
的时候坐在外场对着carter的大屁股,后来挪到三垒外,跟着朋友一起嚷嚷carter...我
当时憋了半天,嚷嚷出一句:"carter, all depends on you.."

Martinez has good numbers, no doubt about that.. but those are not HOF
numbers..think about it... ok, you list several major categories Martinez led
the league...2 leagues, let's say at least 10 major categories.. it's like 20
leaders s a year .. Martinez leads 7 times in his career is really no
biggie.(granted, bonds leads the league 100 times in his career, but still...)
And his lack of WS appearance further hurts his chance in HOF, a.k.a. he has
no big times or highlights in his career. Plus,

Roberto Alomar will be a no-brainer, no doubt about it, 12 golden glove and a
career .301/.372/.444 as a 2B will guarantee it.
Craig Biggio and Larry Walker both borderline HOF.
Well, as he mentioned those names, I'll do some analysis here. It's pretty
sure Bonds, Henderson, Gwynn, McGuire, Cal Ripken will all be first-ballot
HOF.
For this matter, Piazza, Pudge, Junior, Sosa, Thomas, Alomar will all get into
HOF without much problem.
Larry Walker is a specific case. From merely his number, he se

The debate reminds me the 1983 World Series I watched around
New Year in ESPN classic. I was VERY surprised by how the
game was played twenty years ago. Hitters, even the power
hitters, looked so slim. They are clearly not steroid takers
like some of the biggest names in today's game are.
So what do I want to say by referring this? When we want to
debate whether a player is a HOFer, we need to compare him
with the greats who play at the same time as he does. If we
want to say Edgar is a candidat
