人文学位的价值低落，目前受到吸引而前来就读的学生已越来越少。一些政治人物宣称
不想补贴那些不会让人们获得工作的人文科系，有些学校的负责人则开始在文科教育中
辅以更多就业导向的内容因应。
《华尔街日报》报导，据统计，2010年全美仅有7％的大学毕业生主修人文学科，
而在1966年则有14％。在哈佛，主修人文学科的学生已经从1954年的36％下降到2012年
的20％。而在过去的十年中，哈佛人文学科的学生下降尤为突出，只有三分之一的大一
新生表示有兴趣在该领域就读。

由司法部和教育部领导人签署的公文，指示公立学校领导必须确保没有任何学生受到歧
视。
司法部长林奇（Lynch）5月12日(星期四)发表声明说，「在我们的学校中不能准许有任
何歧视，包括基于性别对跨性别学生的歧视。」这一声明星期五随同有关指示发送给全
