举个例子,今年来的summer associate有只有两个中国人,都是十几岁来美国的,自然
是这边读的本科,列一下他们的credential吧
1,MIT本科,Caltech PHD,Yale law,技术背景化学
2,MIT本科,MIT PHD,NYU law,技术背景电子
另外还有和中国沾边有两位ABC,他们就没有PHD,一个是MS+Umich law,一个是BS+
Uppen law
很多时候,事情存在不可比性,采样太全面了反而对你没有太多指导意义,原因是因为
你本身很特别,没法和普遍现象比了。

First, you have to understand the bi-peak distribution of the law salary.
There are $160k job at big law and there are $60k job at local small law
firms.
Second, For Chinese who came here for grad school and received a master or
phd degree, everyone can get a job paying more than $60k in his original
field without any difficulty. It does not make any sense for them to go to a
lower ranked school with expectation of getting a job at local law firm

street VS going to law school first and working in a law firm
If you work hard, it's easy to make associate, sure you have to put in the
hours, but that's the same with law firms. Same with going to VP from
associate. And VP is not really a senior title in banks, it took me only 5
years to make VP, while it'll take much longer (and much less likely) to make
partner in a law firm. And you are free to compare the pay between a |

After 8 weeks in law school, I find it intricately similar to my high school.
1. There are a lot of people in each section (class). 65 is the number for
my section in law school, 60 was for my high school.
2. In both law school and high school, I studied extremely hard. I never
thought I would study that hard again after high school. Wrong.

JSD,但是可以先去读JD

1.LLM和JSD是graduate degree,LLB是under degree。 JD是什么level的呢?

Civil Law is usually where there is an unresolved issue between two legal

估计你是化学或者生物的MS,我也是,但我是男生,在药厂干了六七年后觉得到头了,
没有上升空间,工资也差不多涨不动了,不讨厌化学,但是受不了一辈子干bench work
,所以两年前准备上law school,找patent agent的工作。
一个字:难!
学生物化学的没有PhD真是TMD的受歧视,在药厂一辈子干苦力,找Patent Agent的工作
绝大多数firm更本就不考虑。
但是难并不是完全没希望。我们这儿的law school排名很一般,但我这两年成绩很好,
part time的第一名+law review,找了两年终于找到了一个大所的patent agent的工作
,firm付后两年的学费,如果我没有screw up big time的话毕业后应该直接转成first
year或者second year的associate。我刚开始工作一两个月,非常喜欢。
但是如果你象轻松的话就别学Law了,药厂舒服多了。
要是考虑钱的话就博一博。普通PhD在药厂干一辈子收入的天花板就是大所律师收入的
地板。

The truth is that patent law has been an exit option for bio or chem PhDs
for a long time. However, patent law, like any other law regulating commerce
, depends on a prosperous industry. With big pharmas running short on
pipelines and biotechs stagnating, bio/chem patent law has no growth. Also
keep in mind the number of PhDs being produced each year in all so-called
elite US schools alone, thanks to the liberal educational standards.

2) Chinese law and U.S. law are different. Your J.D. earned here might add
some "glory" to you but might not help you deal with real cases in China. On

Assuming IP law then what is your 学校理科?
Right now IP market in EE CS is pretty decent, but market in Chem Bio is
pretty terrible and I doubt situation is going to change in the next few
years.
To get 160K as starting salary in a big law firm, as a Chinese student, you'
d better get into T14 school, otherwise your law school investment return
will not look that profitable. Remember average JD salary is only around 50k. |

not really, because many people already have a Ph.D, that is an advantage
when looking for IP job in that specific area.
You don't have to do IP, law school is a general education, but most people
get into law school with a specific goal in their mind, otherwise you will
get lost easily when coming into selecting courses.

junior忙到死,associate一年二年生80小时工作周还属于加班概念 三年生就已经习以

JD目前回国还算有优势,我知道几个case回国的薪水在50-80万之间 但是中国人读的越

3 进入这个行业有多难? 对于中国人来讲,最大的障碍是什么?
语言,如果高等教育不是在美国接受,在美国没有呆满5年以上,写作是最大的问题

了 而且很多教授很势利。。。it's a shame to say this but it's true....they
evaluate students according to their background and academic performance.
Another important fact is that it is very difficult for a Chinese speaking
student to merge into the mainstream student body. Professors are human,
they bond with students whom they share a lot of similarities with or whom

23个,logical reasoning不到20个,你要走的路还很远。
不要以为“现在patent lawyer需求量很大”,这种话是patent以外人的臆想。基本的
情况,据上次apple,HP的人说,是:能做这分工作的resume我一般能收到100份,
position只有1个,你说要谁呢?没hard science背景连递简历都谈不到的,你这种
背景的JD简历有100份。
如果目前托福110分以下,现在LSAT 162以下,你要走的路还很远。

专业的杂志写手 报纸记者什么 本科都是英文哲学历史毕业 都是native的美国人 期末
考试essay题照样得D
我的宪法课final 3道essay题 4个小时 我敲了4万多字 拿了一个B—
平时的阅读 一个周末200个page是非常非常非常仁慈的阅读量 很多case还是很久之前
奇奇怪怪的英文写的 不仅要读完 还要能够理解透彻然后去课堂和老师吵架 同时还要
背下来 因为第一年的考试大部分是闭卷
我第一学期的4门课 上课的笔记加一起超过10万字 第一学期没看过电影没出去吃过饭
没逛过街没有过休息日 基本上是每天至少7小时的学期时间 这样我第一学期gpa勉强过
了3.0
如果你准备好3年都过这样的生活 那么去找一套真题做下 看看能不能做到160的水准
如果不能,建议你至少给自己4个月时间准备 两年前我第一次做lsat的分数是155 而3
年前我的托福分数是118 GRE VERBAL 是600

这些年最火热的就是码工,头几大的那些,招人多,还待遇高,
比biglaw起薪高,赶上biglaw的mid/senior associates,work life balance却好很多
,入门也容易,狂啃编程和做题,一年总足够了吧,还没几十万的学费生活费成本
biglaw是law firm里pay的最高的了,还难进,应该比FLAG难进,而且进去了还待不了
俩年,淘汰率高,压力大,没life
这是law firm最高跟码工最高比
中小firm跟中小码工比,那就更没得比了
更别说这还没算3-4年法学院的学费和机会成本
现在还往law跳火坑,只有一个评价:不是傻,就是实在是闲得撑的非得折腾一下 |

handed in to him and was not based on fair competition,because the president was
selected based on academic achievement and publication, but he did not have
any publication.

law is "better for women." It's incredible that a state legislator would
openly admit to such vile bigotry.
Can you imagine if she said the law is "better for white people" or "better
for Catholics" or "better for men"? So the main sponsor of this law openly
admits she was trying to favor her own tribe. And it turns out to be unfair.
