微生物專家卡謝菲(Kazem Kashefi)及電子工程師布朗(Adam Brown)發現一種“耐金屬
貪銅菌”(Cupriavidus metallidurans)，它能夠把自然界中的劇毒液體氯化金“消化
”成純金。卡謝菲表示，這種細菌在對抗劇毒時異常強壯，比過去所認為的強上25倍。
在實驗中，“煉金菌”會自動吃下氯化金，而一個禮拜過后，以糞便的形式將貴重金屬
排出來。卡謝菲說，這個過程是自然而然發生，無須任何外力介入；過去煉金師不斷嘗
試用魔法變出黃金，但他們沒有想過煉金的秘密竟然是群微不足道的細小生物。
