The sad thing about this story, beside the fact that two defenseless women
were brutally raped, is that the likihood of anyone of the perpetrators
actually being is very low, and if they are caught will be prosecuted in
juvenile court and get community service and probation. Maybe even 6 month
stay in some detention center.
Meanwhile, these two women will be haunted by their experience for the rest
of their lives.

定在公立 学校不得过早引入此类争议话题。。。比如实行 no ask, no tell 之类

标 题: 求医问药：幼年特发性关节炎（juvenile rheumatoid arthritis， JRA）

国内朋友两岁的孩子不幸得了这个病，非常着急，希望能得到些建议。
孩子9个月大时就出现了关节肿胀，由于没意识到问题严重，11个月时才开始入院，现
在一年多了。
目前的症状是多个关节出现肿大，不发病时可以走路，但情况非常依赖药物（Naproxen
），不吃药的话睡觉都会蜷成一团，十分可怜；总吃药的话，孩子很容易感冒发烧，有
时高烧不退，非常危险。
早些时候用过抗风湿药副以少量激素， 效果差，副作用大，才改用生物单抗类药的。
想问问这种病可以长期用药吗？有没有比较好的治疗手段？国外尤其在美国市场有没有
好点的药，能不能直接买到？

and 8 months in state prison.
Xu pleaded “no contest” to all twelve of the counts, which included
conspiracy, lewd conduct, child annoyance, and disorderly conduct.
Xu and Nicholas Robert Bowen, 61, went into parks on Davis and recorded her
exposing herself to children. Additionally, Xu took nude pictures of her

俺昨天想了一下，你说的这个也是很有道理的。不过这个主要是对 adult fiction
vs adult non-fiction 而言。Juvenile fiction 基本还是 fantasy
的比重非常大，跟 juvenile non-fiction 差别还是很明显的。
这个版上讨论，俺默认都是在说 juvenile fiction vs non-fiction，可能

“Juvenile non-fiction literature” vs “Juvenile fiction literature”
（1）sense of “reality” vs “fantasy”。
（2）empathy “remote/abstract” vs “close/concrete”
（2.1） 这个 remote 不一定是空间上的，也可以是时间上的。
也就是说 “empathy one's own future life”。
这个展开说一下：一个人计划将来的人生，或者为将来
的人生做准备，或者说理想。是不是有可能源于
“empathy one's own future life”？
（3）“develop one's own opinion” vs “comprehend author's opinion”
关于 “Juvenile non-fiction science” 差别，这个看起来大家观点好像比较一致。
俺这次的差不多到这里可以告一个段落了吧。。。 |

发帖数: 10908 | 48 我管我家大娃小学期间的阅读，所以我知道我家大娃虽然看起来阅读很杂，但其实是有
非常明显确切的 pattern 的。
我家大娃的 non-fiction 阅读，开始于二年级暑假快结束时，直接原因是 school
report 的字里行间，我觉得有词汇方面的 concern。
所以我给我家大娃开始课后图书馆阅读。跟目前的一年级小娃不同的是，大娃她开始图
书馆阅读时是三年级，那时她已经可以自己开始独立阅读，以及 silent reading。（
不像目前一年级小娃，需要 read to parent）。
大娃她的阅读一条平行线是开始于 juvenile non-fiction 的 biography topic，从大
约 lexile 500L 左右的 biography 开始，到三年级的 X'mas 的时候她对 Anne Frank
的 the diary of a young girl (lexile 1080L) 感兴趣，反复借出来好几次，之后
text complexity 不再是图书馆阅读的瓶颈。之后读一些 juvenile non-fiction
history 之类。
