my 2006 jetta is at around 2500rpm at 70mph (6th gear, DSG transmission)
and my 2010 jetta is at 2000rpm @ 70mph (6th gear, manual)
Since the car's max torque range is between 1600-2400 rpm
I don't even need to shift during normal passing. I only need to downshift
for fast passing to take advantage of the max horse power (4000rpm ish)

That's why I say "Screw EPA", go to www.fuelly.com, where you can find the
real world average gas mileages. On average it's 40-41 ish, that already
equals EPA's hwy mileage.
As to car price, you need to compare cars of the same trim level. bae model
TDIs have lots of upgrades that base models Jettas don't have.
Let alone the 50% more torque.

- all done

enough money to raise your kid?
why don't u just settle for a safe but old-ish taurus with like 4000-5000$
and reserve the money for your kid?
you want your kid to say "my dad spent his money on fancy cars and did not

TVB= traffic violations bureau
If so, this kind of ticket is very hard to win assuming you plea not guilty
and then go to hearing at the court.
If it is a white or white/yellow-ish ticket, it is local and you can go to
the local court to seek a plea bargain, which will not save you money but

Just withdrawed the ad. and think we put too low a price there.
The KBB/Edmunds indicates the car should be appraised around 6k'ish without
major damage (rough) and still driavable. I just took the cost for
transmission replacement away and put it as 2k, but right now it seems that

2014 advanced SH-AWD

I reserve my point.
Research is to entertain oneself. Sure, we also make a living by doing that.
But if simply for making a good living, there are many other choices.
Say, good chefs, certified nurses, and dental hygienists earn as much as, if
no more than, faculty in many fields (e.g., arts-ish). Let alone
considering tenure stress, teaching load, and hardcore politics.

I think there's a sense in academia that people get PhD's so that they can
become professors. Most graduate students have that point of view going

essentially entirely with faculty. And most professors encourage students

dept is the most academic-ish level in universities. at the college level
and above, life is pretty much like that in the house of cards. people talk
about and work with resources and connections. research? that is one of
their cards, especially when there are related awards and buzzwords.
in some sense, dept-level politics, no matter how severe it is, is merely
about ego. some newbie level of real politics.
