前四名的地位。而且BSD, Mach作为UNIX的三大分支（另外一支是System V）产生了很

可是却不能在本机上发email,而必须等到mail server上去发
在本机上如果给yahoo的地址发倒是可以,
但是几乎任何别的地址都会被退信
是不是本机上什么设置不对?比如DNS设置之类的
另外一台新机器也有同样的问题.是不是新机器都有
一个特定的文件要改动设置?

downloadable from somewhere?)
The reason is that GCC doesn't have good support for STL.
So, Linux is definitely out of consideration. I kinda
like SGI C++ or Solaris C++ compilers for their support
of STL. But, is there a Irix for PC? How is the option
of buying a dedicated Unix machine (under $500)?

For Irix, everytime you open an xterm window, a login shell will be invoked,
so it will execute .login once more.
In theory, for irix6.5, you can add a file .sgisession under your home
directory, which will be executed only once for each session. But in practice,
sometime, it doesn't work at all.
So my way is still to add something in .cshrc or .login, but everytime I will
measure if it's first time to be executed.

First of all, I had very limited experience with AIX, and as far as I know
there is no AIX in my department.
Vendors tend to play magic with numbers. Benchmarks depend on
too many things. I don't know why you said IBM beats Sun in performance,
and honestly, I doubt it has any real sense.
You can think so. People always write/test software for mainstream
systems. If I write a software, I will certainly test it on Solaris
and Linux, and may never take the effort to port it to AIX or IRIX.

there was an error msg when i typed expect:
Tcl_Init failed: version mismatch: library
scripts expect Tcl version 7.5b1 or later but the loaded version is
only 7.4p1
so how to update Tcl?
I asked the administrator, who told me the Tcl 8.0 was in some dir.(../freeware/
but how to update it? just copy over the tclsh8.0 to /usr/bin ? or should
make some symbolic link ?

在IRIX上系统报告说，“71：must be a seperator (: or ::) for
rules"
在solaris上系统说，"Fatal error in reader: makefile, line
71: Unexpected end of line seen"
这一部分只是定义一些 local variable,并没有真正去编译。
我的问题是gnu的make是否不能识别 ifeq 语句?
我查了在线帮助，好象没提条件编译的事。而gnu的make手册
说明这样的调用是正确的。请大虾赐教 |

on SGI Irix even if u shut down the machine by pressing the power button and
then restart it the screen will still be locked, LOL! |
