看，说是阁楼的insulation太少了，只有3寸左右。他们说需要加到13到16寸厚，达到
R38的值才好。找了两家公司报价，价格差很多，所以准备找大家问问。我家阁楼面积
大约700尺。
公司1：说$2.5/square foot。这样就要1750美元；说加14至16英寸厚的insulation，
加到 R38。
公司2：说总价$980，加12英寸的cellulose insulation，加到R60。
我问可不可以用Batt insulation，他们都说不做这个材料。还说这个材料不如
cellulose insulation好。
我觉得为什么都是本地公司，报价差别这么大。还有那个R value，怎么说出来都不一
样？我看Batt insulation看起来好像比较好安装。是不是因为这个原因公司才不做？
我想问各位大牛，第一：他们价格合理吗？第二：自己装batt insulation可行吗？大

ceiling，这样主卧冬天会隔热好点，但不知道该不该选insulate garage wall,造价
300左右，有经验的朋友给点建议吧。我理解的都是在drywall里填些隔热棉。问了几个
朋友，有的说无所谓，将来也不会给取暖费省多少钱，因为车库门还是透风的，没什么
本质区别。

刚才有跟builder聊了聊，说是 The Garage Wall that touches the House IS
Insulated. ONLY the WALLS that DO NOT TOUCH the HOUSE (LIVING SPACE) are not

最近在考虑加insulation的问题。在cellulose和fiberglass之间犹豫不决。于是上网
做了些research。有以下发现：
首先，cellulose有很多由于fiberglass的地方。便宜，不透气，驱虫，驱老鼠。等等
。但是我在一个论坛上发现许多post说cellulose有火灾危险。一些说的很耸人听闻。

sound insulation. 所以我觉得r-19的insulation在floor里对减小噪声没太大作用，

找了一个Energy Performance的contractor来看了一下。他的建议是把阁楼
做insulation。现在阁楼上insulation还有4-5 inch厚，但经年累月已经成
粉末状。contractor建议再blow 6 inch厚的Cellulose，把通上阁楼的stair
cover换掉，还有一点其他杂活，阁楼大约720 sq ft，估价去掉incentive
之后自己付大约260刀。做完之后energy performance score从89降到76，
每年估计节约160刀。
现在的问题是原房主在阁楼上铺了地板。由于时间久了，地板很多地方
都不好了。要做insulation，必须把地板搞掉，然后再吹进去6 inch厚的
cellulose。但是我们还是想把阁楼的地板保留，或者保留一部分。最后

了检查是insulation没有做好，感觉insulation得重新弄。
给了我一个报价3面墙大概800多，可以帮忙节省能源，这个insulation是必须弄了的吧

找的就是massave，现在不是免费的了。但是800多也很便宜。
我开始也是自己查漏风，用Insulation kit把有漏风的窗户简单封了下，但这波天气实
在太冷了，封之前还能达到设的温度，封之后因为这几天温度过低反而达不到设的温度。
房子不大。这个月energy gas bill还没出来，估计要上400，来的人看了说这种天气
200刀是正常的，所以要做墙面的Insulation。 |

insulation，一般稍微新一点的楼都有cavity insulation，有的话再弄也没必要，窗
户和门是不是新的？窗户至少要是double pane，门最好是insulated。然后查一下漏风
，阁楼的楼梯最好要做weatherstrip，然后再罩上个insulation cover。 |

油房並不能拿insulation rebate(up to$1500), 因為rebate是由gas company提供, 前
提是房屋必須為gas heat.
National Grid倒是有個insulation contractor list, 只有list上做的才允許rebate,
應該不太差, 可以參考. 找人估價是不用錢的, 找離家近的問問. 記得當初找一家叫
Anderson insulation, 另一家Green Stamp, 其他忘了.
他們和auditor查看方法差不多, 最普遍的是用測溫攝影, 用溫差來"透視"牆內有多少
insulation, 在室內外溫差大的時候影像效果最好, 所以等天冷再測可能比較理想. |

We just did our insulation and got 75% rebate from our gas company, and we
expect to get another 30% credit from fed, so we may end up have someone did
the insulation for us for free.
Our gas company also send someone to our home for energy audit:they give

tight seal, you shouldn't bother with the window insulation kit. However, if
there are clear drafting, you got bad windows and you do need to seal that
up, then window insulation kit should help.
There are special door seal stripes at HD for your drafting door problem.

insulation 上除了点岔子（具体不清楚）。几年以后builder 意识到当年的差错可能
导致房子生mold （据说还没有真的有report 说有mold）， 所以对整个小区的绝大多
数房子replace exterior dry wall and insulation.
我们看上的这个房子不在builder 重新翻修之列。但现任房主说他们为了求安心，自己
花6K刀作了部分的 replacement of exterior dry wall and insulation， 然后又用2
-10 warranty 叫builder 完成了剩余的 replacement.
我们担心的问题有两个：
1）为什么现任房主要自己花6K去做一部分，而不是直接利用warranty 找builder 来做；
2）不知道他自己做的部分质量如何。现任房主说自己是 professional builder，但不

什么pink什么的，装了三层，attic里装了R30的，roof内侧装了reflection的层和R13
的一层。找了个handy man，加一些别的活（后院铺bluk和几个小活），Labor是$1500
。觉得还可以。关键要找个负责任的handy man。
装Insulation本身不难，但remove old insulation是个累活，而且上面空间小，又不
太通风，自己做会很累的，做的时候还要注意不要把air vent口堵了。我的attic
insulation差不多做了5天吧。 |

decade or so. There's no reason not to. Cellulose is a better insulator, it
also provides air sealing ability. If you insulate with cellulose, you don't
need vapor barrier, again saves money. It's estimated that using cellulose
will make your energy bill about 20% less than if you use fiberglass. It's
cheaper than fiber glass, and it's green.

出入的门下面可以装一个adjusted double sided insulation. 车库和阳台门也做个
insulation. 基本上就差不多了。 乐观点一个月省30% heating bill。

wall insulation is to insulate your house to prevent the hot/ cold air from
outside transfer into your house, and keep the warm/ cool air in your house
get out of the house so you will save energy.

If you are in southern states, a radiant barrier might be worthwhile as well.
It's the preparation that's most time consuming. First, you will need to
inspect all places where there is a hole. It might be a light box, the
venting stack, or a wire is coming up between walls. Seal them with foam
insulation if they are small or build boxes with rigid panel insulation and
seal the edges with foam.

I have it in my attic.Tested it, and contains less than 1% asbestos, is not
considered to contain asbestos in my state. Would cost $10,000 to remove all
. If you do not touch it, it is fine. I just covered it with fiberglass
insulation. Make sure you do not disturb it when you lay fiberglass

insulation within it?
If it's just the hole you are trying to fill, a bottle of expanding foam is
a better and cheaper choice.
If it's the wall missing insulation, short of tearing off dry wall, you are

噪音，plumber说是管子热胀冷缩和drywall摩擦造成的。我觉得加了insulation可能好
