的大钱funding rate2%不到，没敢申过。
正在写的这个federal的小grant，全国范围内，一次有两三个人可以拿到，网站上还说
"due to the large number of proposals we receive, no feedback will be given
to unfunded proposals."真的是心情郁闷。
学校也明白我们领域的钱少，tenure对于funding的要求是encouraged but not
required. 现在文章发得差不多了，有Co-PI的grant，总觉得如果拿个自己做PI的
grant就更保险了。
写起来一点劲也没有，总觉得没戏，写了也白写，心也静不下下，如何破解？ |

不容易

我的grant fellowship 根据china-us tax treaty 20b 是不用交税的。我之前是
nonresident alien时用得1040nrez报税，有填grant的地方，但是现在我是resident
alien了，是不是必须用1040ez？那么上面没有提到填grant的地方。我该怎么填？
我以前也提交8833表。
是不是我可以直接自己把w2上的income减去能免税的grant的部分，得出的数字填到
1040ez的第一行？ |

不是针对某个会议的，而是general地support students who working for and presen
ting the result of some NSF granted project。
老板让自个找，但是以前申过的travel grant都是会议给的，从nsf申还是第一次，没有
头绪呢 |

记得以前和国内一个副所长聊过，他说国内科研领域剽窃比较厉害。
我有个疑问就是在写grant的时候，自己想做的gene和primary data如果放进去的话，
是不是会出现问题。毕竟是同行评议，我知道的国内至少有3个PI和我做的方向完全一
致。他们如果知道我的primary data的话，自己搞搞的话，很快就能发出来，低分的。
而我肯定想弄个高分的，拖得时间长。其实这个问题国外也有。
在这种顾虑下，我是不是可以在写grant的时候把基因的名字隐去，而用一些代号表示
。这边我见过这么干的，老板以前给我看过一个grant application，里面的基因名字
都隐去了，相应的用Gene A, Gene B等代替。
在国内这么做可以吗？

发帖数: 4884 | 13 我本来也没有打算CO-I这样的， grant 人员分PI,coPI, CoI ,以及key personnel，
但是连名字，或者key personnel都不提是一个很过分而且不ethical的事情
这个grant从specific aim， significance到实验设计，都是我一个人写出来的，
而且老板从跟我讲要写这个grant，到最后submit就2个礼拜的时间
我跟老板原来就有协议，我不要RAP的title，因为系里面所谓的bureaucracy比较多，
但是同时要有类似的title （我现在是senior RA）
帮老板写了不少grant， 也跟老板提过，需要一些credit这样对申请绿卡以及以后发展
有帮助，key personnel对老板来说没有任何损失，但是对于需要绿卡或者其他的人来
说是一个挺重要的东西。
今天真的是有点火，现在手上一个正在写，还有一个老板也让准备写，
现在也没心情写这个， 先消极怠工再说，md |

发帖数: 932 | 14 首先祝贺你的outstanding grant writing ability。分数和钱都是次的，最重要的能
力是你的，谁也抢不走。
我以前PhD的时候花很多的时间帮老板写grant，属于那种停一个月实验，和老板一起写
的那种。弄了好几次，最后一次是毕业完了还留在实验室9个月等老板拿到grant才走的
。有的拿到了，有的被批的很惨，没有任何credit。但是也心里不舒服，但现在回头想
来这些都是非常重要的training。我2个postdoc fellowship两次都拿到，最近的K申请
13分，我觉得完全是我PhD老板的功劳。我的写作全是他“折磨”出来的。
这个key personel，你完全可以婉转的提出来，告诉老板如果加到grant里，对你的绿
卡申请有帮助，看看他能不能handle。我觉得你老板会同意的。但是，作为一个Eb1a的
过来人，这个帮助不大。不是PI，critical role很难claim，容易RFE。还是老实攒
review和文章citation吧。
我觉得你不要算的很精，人在屋檐下，学会低头，humble一点真的很重要。最好让你老

第一年的budget是单位的grants officer给填的。
现在突然发现他填了$19K的fringe benefit,
但我们家的health insurance (family plan)最近改成了由我LD那边出(LD的benefit更好)，不打算变了，
结果我们这里的manager说这种情况下单位还是会从我的grant里面拿掉$19K,而不能给我作其他用处 (e.g. research cost).
请问是这样的吗? |

grant的机会大一些. 招faculty是看你拿grant的潜力, 除非是senior faculty
position, 那是看你手里有多少钱... |

找学校管Grant的人问能否用我自己NIH的Grant买个新的Laptop，我一开始老老实实地
告诉他是要开会用，结果被否决了，说是与我的Project没有直接关系的都不能买，即
使买了也只能用于做实验的Equipment，不能带出实验室。后来改说以后主要用于实验
室里数据收集和分析，也不行了。
真是气死我了，自己申请的钱想买个电脑都不批准。

大学。单就grant的标准，不谈文章，教学，和politics， 这个数够了吗？还要继续写
proposals吗？本人感觉manage 5-6 个account 很累，三流大学很烂，对grant money
管理很严，层层手续，令人焦头烂额，花的时间比真正做research的时间还多。真是不
想再申请了。可是一个同事说，你只要再拿一个grant， tenure就有把握了。我真要哭
了。

under Other Commitments. I asked for clarification for what they are and got

）.不巧的是我这学期正在on maternity leave，因为家庭原因在另外一个城市。现在
孩子太小回去一趟不方便。如果跟organizer说我不能回去了，会不会不好？ |

10%的工资（非summer)，这部分钱又不够buy out courses的话，这10%是不是就没什么

investigator或者consultant（这个grant不允许multiple PI)，他们都答应了。我就
又分别email他们问他们想involve多少，并且给我个大概的预算，不需要很详细的。结
果一个合作者只回答了一些其他小问题，完全没有回答钱的问题，另一个（我前老板）
说随我定。这样的意思是不是就是默认做consultant了？这个课题主要是我来做，第一
个合作者提供数据（已经有的），我前老板提供技术支持。另外我是不是不应该问他们
想怎么involve，而是自己决定了再征询意见的？第一次写grant什么都不懂啊，轻拍。 |

afterwards in my office.
Now I am writing 3 grants due in two weeks.
One Big Faculty (my mentor) told me, it is OK to feel low one day, but start

么。比如现在手上有个14万左右只fund一年的grant（01/01/2015到12/31/2015）。想

我的两个NIH grant 主要propose 的东西之间没有overlap。但是都需要涉及到其他一
些 co-investigator 的工作。他们的东西基本上在两个grant 里是一样的。做budget
的时候当然都得把他们放在一起而不考虑另外一个。问题是如果两个 grant 都拿到的
话，NIH 会不会检查到这些可能的 overlap 而把经费减少啊？
还有，要是运气好，两个都拿到，也没有 cut, 可不可以给 Co-I 商量只给他们付一份
的钱，而不是 double-pay?

不如写一个review paper包括对领域的outlook或者大家一起讨论有意义。现在grant对
writing的过度强调就是本末倒置。让我好好写proposal远不如让我花时间把paper写好

Paper： 开始一两年没什么，后来多时一年9篇， 平均一下，每年5篇。
Grant: 一个 NSF, 几个小的 Foundation grants, 还有一些内部funding，total 大约
1 M
Teaching: Evaluation比系平均高一点；有几个学生，但还没毕业，也没出什么paper
，基本上还是postdocs, technician 干的，我写的。
Service: Journal associate editor, society councilor, committee members etc.

先 showoff 一下：我搞social science, 现在第2年AP结束，第1年拿到 2 NSF grants
(1 PI, 1 Co-PI), 第2年拿到 2 US Department of XXX grants (2 Co-PI),还有Co-I
打酱油的。我现在做的东西是有点追踪热点，虽然是自己感兴趣的研究范围。但琢磨着
接下来得搞点更具开创性的、引领潮流的东西。会不会好高骛远? |

我准备投一个NIH的R03，这个grant是基于这篇文章的数据，做一些后续实验。我是应
该等到这篇文章发表（这样就等到明年才可以投grant),还是应该现在就投grant,就把
