Xubuntu进不去GUI了,登陆后黑屏。
前天莫名其妙firefox从28升级到29后, tree style tabs就不能用了。
然后我把firefox卸了又重装到了28. 然后提示有些更新我就点了。后来莫名奇妙地就
关机了，开机后再也进不去GUI了。
确认不是显卡的问题，因为我查了没有装任何nvidia的东西。
一开始如果运行 startx， 会跳出一个窗口说failed to load session gnome
我想重装gnome-session,说有package broken hold不能。
我一失手update upgrade了，结果我的系统直接从12.10升级到了14.10！还是进去不
GUI.
我又卸了lighdm重装，结果也不行。
现在mess up了，请教怎么debug，trouble shooting阿？新手弱弱一问。求救！
ps: 升级都是从稳定版本可以直接升，我这从12.10升到了14.10怎么办啊？ |

首先我不是贬低Linux Kernel或者GNU Tool Chain，我也认为这些软件很出色，很有用
，我自己每天都在用，但是我认为X/GNOME/KDE/...这些图形界面就比Windows差了，即
使最近Linux有了很多Fancy的图形功能，实用性仍然有疑问。
一个简单的例子，我不喜欢Alt-Tab切换窗口的方式，Windows下缺省方式太原始，如果
开很多窗口切换起来效率就很低，Gnome/KDE 只是Windows的模仿，Compiz(Kwin)可以
加上Fancy的3D效果，不过我感到对效率提高没有帮助。
我喜欢什么样的切换方式那，首先我想到的是我要用键盘搜索窗口标题，就是按下热键
后，显示一个小窗口，在输入字符是，系统自动用打开的窗口标题搜索匹配我的输入，
类似OSX的hotspot，匹配应该是incremental的，而且不必然从头开始，这样我开了一
大堆窗口后，如果想找到隐藏在里面的一个编辑foo.tex的vim窗口时，不必不断的按
Alt-Tab而且研究每一个窗口的图标或者标题，而是直接激活热键输入vim或者foo.tex
，回车。 |

KDE = windows 7, GNOME looks more like XP level GUI.
However, KDE 4.3 is very incomplete. I would wait for KDE 5, at least all
the legacy applications should have been ported over.

但是，我使用过Mac4Lin Dock, 而且比较过Mac4Lin和Cairo两者。我觉得Cairo Dock（CD）更加美观和实用，如果用户仔细和正确的configure CD, CD完全可以超越水果。
特别的，CD分为CD(OpenGL)适用于有3D显卡的电脑，还有分为CD(No OpenGL)适用于普通的集成显卡没有3D功能的电脑，所以CD非常好用。
你在版上的发帖推荐Cairo, Wbar, 这里你也提到Gnome-do Dock。那么，你的Dock使用经验是什么？ |

It is a PIA to figure out by changing gnome-polity stuff related to HAL...
And there is even a bug in gnome-policy program! .......
I totally agree with what somebody said: since fedora 10, they really make
it not suitable as a desktop anymore.......

1: pidgin was and will never be an GNOME application.It is GNOME that uses
empathy as its official IM application, not ubuntu's decision.
you can still use pidgin. I am.
2: It is unlikely that pidgin will ever support video chat. Empathy will,
though. The video chat code is already in repository. |

Under KDE, use kget
Under GNOME, you can use gwget/downloader for X/uget/etc, it is extremely
easy to write one, just a wrapper around wget or cURL. |

但是怎么不让我创建中文文件名阿？就是在修改文件名里面切换不出中文输入来
难道locale必须得是zh_Cn.utf-8?

to load a lot of stuff when you start some application like firefox. The
less you load in the beginning, the more you load in the end. I use gnome,
and it takes some time to log in. But I don't turn off my computer, I always

但是 gnome login 失败
能进 xterm session
强制运行 gnome-session 死菜
重起后 samba 又能 start 了。。。
看来偶还是安装 xfce desktop。。。 |

Gnome Terminal也可以用Shift+Ins粘贴，如果要进外部的剪贴板就一定要选定+Ctrl+
Ins，但是如果外部剪贴板里面本来就有东西，然后又在Term里面选中了就比较麻烦

applications start to crash...
The key is, don't ask GNOME application to follow KDE style. Change it in
systemsettings->GTK style
and fonts.

I had spent a good few days reading on KDE developer's blogs, it seems to be
a much more organized community effort than the hapless GNOME.
Makes me hate the distro in US. They can pool their resources together
behind KDE, and they have to choose GNOME because the damn thing is made-in-
USA.
