卑诗省的一个反堕胎组织“生命运动联合会”要求隐私委员会举行听证会，他们将挑战卑诗省政府目前实行的法律 - 该法律禁止医院透露与堕胎相关的信息，比如医院每年实施堕胎手术的数字等。
“生命运动联合会”发言人克莱格(Ted Gerk)表示，他们最终的目标是改变现行的法律。同时，他们希望隐私委员会同意就此举行听证会，以便让他们陈述自己的立场。他们认为，公布堕胎统计是关乎公众利益的事情。
他说：“堕胎是属于公共政策。正因为堕胎是需要辩论的议题，如果没有具体的统计数字，辩论就无法进行。”
“生命运动联合会”最初是希望从卑诗的两间医院，温哥华综合医院与科罗纳综合医院了解每年堕胎的具体数字，但两间医院都以透露这个数字违反了现行法律而拒绝了他们的要求。
医院方面同时表示，他们也反对该组织举行听证会的要求，因为卑诗省隐私委员会已经就此做出了裁决。 |
