want us to give up 12% of our pay. My students don't have enough books, if a
student leaves , the next student that comes in gets a half used consumable
book, because we don't have money to order more materials. So his office

The Great Government Shutdown is not that big a deal, even for the

我家的割草砍树之类,都是亲力亲为,所以不认识割草砍树的非法老墨,但因为跟一家
中餐馆的老板很熟,经常去那里吃饭,连带认识了几个非法移民老墨。

偷渡客,说大陆偷渡客要花六七万美元才能来美国,来了还不敢中途回家探亲,不像他

探亲,探完再花几百美元就又到美国来了。
老墨来到美国之后,很多是在中餐馆打杂,他们年轻力壮,干活卖力,要价又低,所以
中餐馆老板愿意雇他们。
当时那个中餐馆也雇了一个大陆偷渡来的中年男人,是老板的老乡,老板给他的工资要
比给老墨的多几百块,但那人身体不大好,干活有点偷懒,所以老板总在念叨,说如果
不是看在老乡份上,就把他炒了,雇个老墨能省不少钱。
有次去那里吃饭,看到一个新面孔,也是老墨,很憨厚,什么英语都不会说,就会憨憨
的笑。
我问老板,以前那个A呢?怎么没见了?
老板说,A前几天跟人撞了车,跑回墨西哥躲灾去了。
我问,那警察会不会找到你这里来?

现在budget这么紧张,工资有涨就很不错了。我在的学校前年freeze,去年furlough,
不知道今年会怎么样。我觉得要等经济好起来,faculty总体的工资才能见涨。
不过工业界也好不到那去,Intel,IBM和HP这样的公司,2010年的fresh PhD工资比
