just curious: if i compile new versions of glibc (like 2.16) and gcc (like 4
.7) and override the default versions (glibc 2.13 and gcc 4.5) under fc14,
will programs compiles using old versions have problem?
do not want to upgrade to higher versions of fedora, but still need to use
some programs that require newer versions of glibc/gcc

yum remove kernel-*fc14*
yum check 会报错，大多数是 fc14 的遗留问题。
把那些包删掉就好了。
yum remove
yum remove gnome-python2-applet
如果用 kmod-nvidia 要小心。最好 yum remove nvidia*
然后才升级。最新的 FC 15 的 kernel 没有 kmod-nvidia 对
应的版本。我另一部实验的机器这个原因 preupgrade 以后
升级挂了。用 FC 14 Live CD rescue. 最后换成
akmod-nvidia 就好了。现在又是可以用了。
开始陆续升级我其他的机器了。
BTW， SSD 升级好快啊，就大概 5 分钟左右。 Download 不算。 |

在FC14
上用着毫无问题。 后来升级到FC15, 自己编的2.6.39就用不行了，每次启动就会进
system
rescue mode, 重新编译也没用。看log也没看出什么名堂。
大家有什么建议？为什么FC15让我的kernel进rescue mode？ |

发帖数: 7142 | 5 是通过 preupgrade 升级的。
386 的 FC14 Live CD 没有问题，估计是升级有什么残留问题
引起的。升级后需要 gptsync, 这个是很常见的。但是 X 搞不定
比较郁闷。X server 好像还是能起来，但是好像 window manager
什么地方卦掉了。
估计要重装了，那就顺便把那个 OSX 10.6 一起重装了。
OSX 10.6 有 boot camp 不让装。
Thinkpad 升级没事，就是 firefox 挂在那个 python binding
上面，把 python binding 删掉重装就好了。 |

The current xorg does not need config file any more. It will
automaticlly pick the right driver for me. I have many linux
machines runing FC14 now. They have different video card and
X will pick different drivers. I don't need to pick. |

发帖数: 7142 | 8 gentoo 是完全不必要的折腾。那个 recompile 的就是瞎掰。
一般历史证明往往 bleeding edge 的 gcc 编译出来不是最快的。
我觉得用 FC14 就挺好。也不是完全没有问题，总体上整合比较好。
其他小地方折腾一下也可以搞定。个人喜好，欢迎大家反对。 |

我以前一直觉得 RHEL 都是没法用的老。
当然喜欢用新东西的代价就是经常 yum update.
不过这个也很正常啊。
FC14 + rpmfunsion 貌似基本上齐全了。 |

发帖数: 7142 | 11 Fedora 就挺好啊。升级用 preupgrade 就行了。如果你不想太过领先，
就用前一个版本的 Fedora. 例如现在最新的是 FC 14, FC15 是beta,
FC13 是maintainance mode. 你就装 FC 13 好了。升级不会很频繁，
而且都是应该升级的。而且你有最新的 security fix. 然后等 FC 15
正式发布了， FC 14 进入 maintenance mode. 然后再升 FC13 -> FC14.
使用 preupgrade. 轻松搞定。
你要是做 server 的话， security update 非常重要的。连 kernel.org
这种大网站都是跑 FC 13 的。 |

the yum preupgrade directory symlink to some bigger file system
directory. It may or maynot work. The worse case it can't upgrade.
You can still use your existing FC14. |

I just mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows. It just works.
On FC14 it works fine as well. |

。可是这些新的glibc的rpm包只对f16/17.怎搞？有没有个详细的自己编译的步骤？ |
