You can fly back to Canada and ask your friend to drive you back to US
because boarder land post CBP will question some, but not most US/Canadian

So my understanding is:
Getting into HK from mainland:
HK work visa can apply for HK ID card. HK ID card(even it is not permanent
ID card) allows you to use E-channel to get into HK. US passport or Chinese
passport makes no difference.
Getting into mainland from HK:
Chinese passport can apply for 通行证. So you can use E-channel.
US passport will have to be stamped everytime you get in mainland.

As chord said, electronical things are absolutely unnecessary, so don磘
bother to bring one unless it uses AAA battery in place of 220V.
As to the kitchen utensils, you can buy a rice-cooker at Hong Kong grocery
or K-mart at $20, not really expensive at all. But you must bring a iron
Guo1 with you if you would like to cook meals by yourself. I suggest to
bring one because in my example, I cooked for myself everytime |
