想换工作，还没拿到绿卡只好用EAD了。
一个小公司，100来人，看起来做得不错，可股票只给15K。我们组是report给CTO的，
kinda 独立于Engr Dept，算是有些research吧，不过我要report给CTO下面的一个
principle，估计也是刚开始管人。位置主要是做无线系统的测试分析，和改进
performance有关的算法，也会有些coding。CTO和VP Engr是两个美国人，看起来都挺
好相处；要管我的principle是个中国人，女，看起来也不错，估计也愿意招我这么个
中国人。
另一个是Atheros，已经IPO了，大概1000来号人。MAC algorithm engineer，manager
是个美国人，也很nice，目前他手下只有一个两年前招的小印。工作也是既有算法研究
也有实际的coding and bug fix， 不过这里是用在chip |

发帖数: 493 | 10 我是楼主,当初发帖的时候没想到帖子会上首页, 所以有些细节没有写清楚. 在这里解
释一下.
楼主在IT部门工作. 发信的阿三不是IT组的, 他并没有cc所有人, 而是直接发给我们VP
engr了. 但因为阿三在信中提到了IT department的presentation. VP engr就把这信
forward给了IT department head, 也就是我的boss. Boss一高兴, 就forward给我们这
些下属了.
信的内容没有修改, 我同意有位同学的看法, 信的遣词用句挺中规中矩的, 感觉很
Indiglish.

老板接了活， 你就得干， 老板和人家说deadline,可能就是胡说
你做死做活也得交出来
公司要lay-off,很可能上来就把工作经验太多的人给砍掉
03年去北加，遇到好几个sr. engr。都是做IC design, 或者什么芯片的牛人
也都是李政道当年那个项目80年代初来米国的
公司要开刀， 上来就把这些家伙砍掉。留若干10年经验的人带一拨学生仔做项目。
所以sr. engr也不好玩。 还是做老板， 赚一票以后， 把公司卖了。
然后悠哉游哉给人家做做consultant。 一年做半年，玩半年。
前阵子我们group找了个老头临时做了俩月。就被这个家伙卷走了几万大洋。tnnd
我做半年大概还没他多， 然后据说他现在跑欧洲快活去了。 然后过了夏天回美国
没准又去哪个公司混混。 爽啊 |

我的背景：本科学ChE，当时因为对Bio很感兴趣，做了几年的BioE，但是现在越来越
觉得自己不太适合做研究，兴趣逐渐丧失，而且现在的实验室也一般，毕业后出路不太
好。当然，现在还是对BioE（尤其tissue engr，之前做过些）更感兴趣些，但是现在的
研究方向不是tissue engr。现在准备转学或者换老板，请大家给些建议吧,谢谢！ |

very difficult. This is absolutely not true. PE is the easiest one that
almost everyone in science and engineering majors can change to if people
are willing to, for example, ME, ChE, CE, EE, (Environmental Engr, Aarospace
Engr) ... geology (including geology, geophysics, petrophysics etc...),
hydrology, physics, math, CS and chemistry. The only major I am not too
positive is biology-related though.

You are too far away from structural engineering.
I think Aerospace Engr, naval architectural , Engineering mechanics is the
most close major to structural engr. They cover a lot in structural
mechanics, material mechanisc except there are no concrete designing courses

国内的时候，因为我对GIS/RS感兴趣，所以学了些皮毛，到美国以后老板让我做这方面的
研究，3年期间，学了几门课，做了一个项目，后来凭着这点经验找着了现在的工作。
虽然工资不高，但这一行只要有2－3年的工作经验，拿个6－7万是有可能的。其实GIS/RS
和Civil&Envi. Engr. 结合得还是很紧的，拿FIS study来说，一般每个项目里有大概
30％是给GIS mapping的 |

发帖数: 823 | 50 我再跟你掰扯一下。ENR那个排名是对于civil engr, 所以你说的那三个公司虽然可能
环境很强，但没有ch2m hill 或 urs 排名高。
而所谓environmental business，往往指的是site remediation类的。我们常做的
water or wastewater engineering，属于老美定义里头的civil engr。去年我说的这
个排名根本就没有environmental这类。我们公司今年参加的也是civil那个档。
而且，我自己参加那个survey后，觉得这个排名，既然叫做“best firms to work for
", 那么应该对一些人有普遍意义上的参考价值。
