About half way between West Egg and New York the motor road hastily joins
the railroad and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile, so as to shrink
away from a certain desolate area of land. This is a valley of ashes — a
fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and
grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and
rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly
and already crumbling t...

eyes of Eckleburg了

上次读的时候,还是在我 younger and more vulnerable years,

I went to bed early tonight, much earlier than usual, partly because of my
persisting flu, and also because i wanted to finish this book i had been
reading for the last couple of days. It started kind of slow but somewhere
between last night and late this afternoon in the smoking room it started to
get intense and compelling. Now i've finished it, sadness spreads across my
heart like the hint of the looming autumn gloom on this drizzling early
Sep night. and i felt this u

Great Gatsby and Ernest Hemingway's Sun also Rise :)
What can I say, they are of high quality yet it is sad to follow the doomed
tragedy of Gatsby. When we are looking upward at greatness on the earth, we
just didn't realize that the greatness has already passed us into the eternal
past, and we are the beat generation with lost dreams.
Just finished reading Haruki Murakami's Sputnik Sweetheart.

Time and memory and past are as thick as forest that so many writers like to
go back to again and again. There were moments that I was overwhelmed then
bored by their nostalgia; then I tried to picture ancient Greeks' way, that
they thought past was in front of them and future behind. An introspective
author probably adopted the similiar attitude, by facing with past and walking
backward into future.

Naboko
