加州大学Santa Cruz分校数学教授Andrey Todorov信件(译文)
关于卡拉比-丘流形模空间无阻碍性的证明历史,1980年 Bogomolov提出了
证明典则类为零的簇的模空间无阻碍性的方法。他的论证非常漂亮,可是只对超
凯勒情形有效。我从1986年开始研究卡拉比-丘流形模空间无阻碍性的问题。同
年我在MPI公布了预印本。1986年12月,我收到田刚的来信,说他也发现了同样
的公式,就是现在所称的Tian- Todorov公式。
1992年我到普林斯顿访问,遇到Nadal(萧荫堂的一个学生)。我从他那里
得知,田刚是一个非常不诚实的人。他告诉我,田刚在写自己的那篇卡拉比-丘
流形模空间之前,就知道了我所发表的预印本。Nadal告诉我他亲眼看到田刚在
哈佛的时候,研读我的预印本。事实上,我的文章中包含了更多的结果。
Kazdan教授曾问我对于田刚的看法。我告诉他,田刚还算是个有能力的数学

both Matt and Scott are extremely smart.
Matt knows more phenomenology than Scott and
he is more famous. He may be famous for string
theory like using AdS/CFT duality to solve QCD
confinement but he was trained in pheno.
I remember he was correcting someone's
statement on top discovery on a conference.

我跟matt可撤不上关系
他跟我两任老板到都有合作,和我国内的老师有些师承
估计这些喜欢QCD的人都比较喜欢Technicolor之类的
Matt还是很早pointed out Technicolor/RS duality的人
scott跟michael dine的时候估计也搅和过
dynimical susy breaking的business
应该对technicolor这类理论也比较有好感
其实Scott做的可能更collider一点
multijet,spin determination之类都挺有用的
你们Rutgers最大的优势是离princeton比较近
现在Nima把他的那帮人都带去了
再加上liantao带的几postdoc,Itay, Matt Reece他们
整个那片的collider pheno还是非常active的
多跟他们亲近亲近也有好处

That doesn't mean the duality is wrong -- it's just that we cannot solve
string theory in AdS at strong coupling. We talk about things we cannot
compute all the time, and I don't see why you feel so uncomfortable about it
.:) As I said, the only way you can hope to solve a strongly coupled system
analytically, is either the system has a weakly coupled dual description, or
the system is integrable for some reason.

同意, wave particle duality的描述早就过时了,不知道现在的教科书改没该. wave
particle is a 1930 and 1940's stuff.
QFT is the language to describe, not thinking an object is both wave and
particle, and like two sides of a coin.

like solution that Born first proposed, that's his only contribution. Yes,
this contribution is big, but quite isolated and not recognized well for a

simmel和durkheim都在解决社会如何可能的问题,但simmel是从individualism的角度
出发,除了结构,也说明独立的个人靠什么来联系。durkheim虽然建立了个人和社会的
二元对立,但是主要的意思是个人必须通过集体仪式参与来给mental categories提供
社会意义。一个是把primacy给了个人,一个是说没有能脱离社会存在的个人。可以批
判durkheim建立了一个problematic duality,但是在durkheim那里,primacy给的是社
会,是生物人的copresence。
所以structure和agency的问题,也有人看作是社会和个人关系的问题。但是这个看法
不对,我觉得。因为个人的行动意义是社会带来的。我们不能把primacy给予生物体个
人。
解决structure和agency的问题,当然可以像alvarado说的,认为这个二元对立本身就
是死胡同,因为两者本来就不可取一,甚至不可分。也可以参看andrew abbott的看法
,认为social actor不是研究的单位,social action才是,这样,需要解释的是
