The first 5.8 is actually quite stiff. I did the flaring finger crack 15 ft
to the right of the pillar. I don't even know where the second 5.8 is since
everything else feels a lot easier. |

p*******r 发帖数: 180 | 19 supposedly the 2nd 5.8 is right above the finger crack according to the
guidebook. But it feels more like a 5.7. The rest is 5.easy or 4th class
like you said.
the dihedral is about 15 ft left of the finger crack. there is a double
crack systme about 5 to 6 ft right to the finger crack and is supposed to be
a bit easier. I did find the flare finger crack a bit sandbagged.
Most people won't do it this way. It is a rather personal and rational
choice.

SOLO,maybe can't talk

it's a personal choice, although I woudln't do it. maybe it's just that I am

lower 5th class and there may even be some 5.9 that we soloed with a 20 lb

place you'll never be able to finish a lot of the lines and get back before
the 2pm storm hits (we were caught in one and narrowly escaped one last week)
It's all personal choice and judgement. I put in pros a lot more often than

with common sense make up most of the population. but that doesn't prevent f
*ckups from f*cking things up, regardless what you tell or don't tell them,
that is exactly why preaching like "yeah you should do it or no you should
not do it" is remotely useless, especially coming from someone who doesn't
have deep understanding of climbing. |

for climbs before and after.
I should be able to do both routes by then given another year of training,
though I'm not sure about the 5.9 off-width pitch on Dragontail. I can
practise for it but I'm not sure wether I'll be solid by then. |

b***y 发帖数: 824 | 45 Side story heard during this weekend: one India guy in our climb did
Dragontail backbone last weekend. Right before the climb, his buddy found
out he brought in two left rock shoe. Turns out he did the route with one
rock shoe and one approach shoe, still made to the summit. |

p*******r 发帖数: 180 | 46 I spotted the bluish ice on Colchuck glacier last time when I was on
Dragontail so decided to give it a try (3 weeks ago). Glad I did and it
was another fun day in the beautiful Stuart Range. Climbing glacial ice
in August got me stoked.
Summary: 16 miles, 2 peaks, 6,700 ft gain, 11 hrs car to car.
0300 leave Seattle
0600 start from TH
0730 get to Colchuck lake
0945 start climbing ice. The approach to the climb was slow and long on
the glacial debris moraine since the glacier has receded dramat |

I was hoping to find a local partner. but I would be happy to climb with you. The problem is then we need to
either rent a car or hitch ride with local group. that would be less flexible.
It would be ideal to have locals that knows the terrain there in the group.
In terms of climbing, I am interested in doing Complete North Ridge
