第一，这种说法没有可信的、直白的历史文献为据，
第二，西方任何史书没有告诉我们殖民事件发生的基本年代，
第三，找不到希腊曾在海外建立任何殖民地的可信旁证。
第四，最重要的是，在据说曾是希腊殖民地的海外地点（如小亚细亚的安纳托利亚），
并未找到足以支持该地曾是希腊殖民地这种说法的考古实证。
事实上，所有关于希腊海外殖民帝国的说法，都是源自文艺复兴以后出现的那些难以信
证的二手、三手传说或神话（如米诺斯神话或特洛伊神话之类）。
有趣的是，在所传说的“大希腊殖民”时期，却有丰富的考古发现表明，史前地中海地
区确曾存在一个强大的海上殖民城邦——但是这个城邦并非古希腊，而是多数中国人不
甚了解、西方史学则刻意近乎无视的一个东方城邦——腓尼基。
