Boethius(480-524)是罗马世代显贵，曾任罗马执政官，523年被东哥特王Theodoric以
叛国罪下狱，次年被秘密处死。《哲学的慰藉》是波埃修斯在狱中所作，以与哲学女神
对白以及诗歌的方式描述自己的际遇，反思了世俗幸福之不可靠，认为最高的幸福和至
善在于上帝。Boethius还分析了恶的本质在于善的缺乏，讨论了神意（providence）与
自由意志的关系问题。Boethius对恶和自由意志的理解，与奥古斯丁虽然极为类似，却
不清楚两者之间是否有渊源。奥古斯丁曾说“信仰，尔后才理解（crede, ut
intelligas , 出自Ten Homilies on the First Epistle of John）”；Boethius虽言
“哲学的慰藉”，最终却也是让灵魂归向上主才安然于苦难，因此很难说仅仅是哲学写
作，虽然Boethius似乎从来没有提及过基督教，有一处甚至暗示其对哲学的热爱是遭受
检控的理由，“因为你（哲学女神）的缘故，他们认为从我的身上找到了指控的根由。

So instead of spending 3 years doing a postdoc, using that time to get a JD
gives a much higher return.
For now, the best route is to get a technology specialisit position in an IP
firm, get an H1B and green card (if possible) while doing the LSAT and
application, take the patent bar, and then go to law school. It's much more
rewarding than staying in the bio research path.
And you won't give up all the scientific crede |

any problem to put "M.D." title behind your name--in your white coat, or
published paper, or any official documents!!!!
I came to Canada then US, no matter which university I worked, no matter I
was researcher or resident, fellow, or nowdays an attending, I always put M.
D., Ph.D. behind my name in coat, paper, or every official documents/forms--
even immigrant documents.
No ANY problem, never met any challenge.
