云就是水,空气中水分子condensation出来。
空气中总有溶解的水分子,看不见,越靠近冰面或水面相对湿度越大,溶解度随温度变
化,所以一旦降温就很可能有condensation.
我想你去的时候是那边的夏天,加上也还不是最冷的地方。

You should have learned this technique in college or from your labmates now.
1) Put the open end into the powder and make sure there is enough powder
inside the tip of the tube.
2) Find a condenser. Drop the capillary tube (open end up, close end down)
into the condense on your bench. Do it several time until the powder
settled down at the closed end of the tube.

和小组的朋友分享学习方法,写了这个step1学习方法总结,不知不觉地就唐了很多,贴上来吧,赚点人气。先要说明,仅作为参考,大家看了要结合自己的情况,扬长避短。另外,自己也没考得很好,其实没什么资格写得,算是开个头吧,大家讨论,共同学习。
我觉得step1考试好比cell cycle,前期复习大量看书,尤其是抱着kaplan几册大书啃,好像G1 phase, 最费时,弄不好,就进入G0 phase,长期休眠了,我本人就G0 phase 长期休眠了很久。若想要尽快考完,就一定要在这一期尽量缩短时间,而且,还有个问题就是,这一阶段的动力很不足(好比酶的活性很弱,而且,还总被各个抑制因子(p53 and Rb)不断check, 我就经常问自己,真的要走这条路吗?为什么?我一定要活得这么累吗?等等,不断地question自己,一遇到不顺心的,就会G0 phase躲着),所以,需要外界催化剂,小组是最好的。这个阶段的小组帮助最大,因为每个人有长处,大家互通有无,1,对很多知识理解好很多,2,最重要的考版不再枯燥,大家互相鼓励,督促,学习才有干劲。所以,给刚刚开始准备考版的同学的建议:1,赶快加入或... 阅读全帖

Well, we used to think that the CFT dual of M-theory on AdS4xS7 is "blurred"
, and now we have ABJM -- which is still blurred at small CS level k, but at
least it is in principle well defined.
I wasn't implying that condensed matter theorists are picking up on ads/cft.
Once I complained to a condensed matter theorist that progress in string
theory is slow these days, and he says string theorists are too spoiled --
progress like ads/cft don't come by every year or even every decade.:)

我在西北大学做博士后。我读博士的老板,在新泽西,Rutgers,问我是否知道有人做
SQUID qbit的愿意去他那里做。老板人很nice,但不是大牛,Rutgers这方面理论
support比较强,实验方面比那些做量子计算的强组(如 Yale和UCSB)积累少。如果有
人有相关经验,愿意试试的可以向我了解具体情况。
上次我博士毕业前老板也是问我有没有认识的比较capable的朋友,不过我传达信息给
一个朋友晚了点,老板已经从法国和德国各找了一个,都是从还比较有名的组过来的。
最近他申请钱有点眉目,就又问我有没有合适的人选。
我觉得,对于比较aggresive的,如果能够去Yale或者UCSB的还是争取去那里,如果没
有那个机会,Rutgers也能够做quality research。
另外,如果芝加哥附近的朋友最近有比较好的结果(比如发表在PRL上面,系里面还是
希望seminar质量好一点)愿意来西北物理系给一个condensed matter seminar的可以
联系我。系里做condensed matter 的教授里面没有中国人,我想每学期推荐一两个中
国人来交流一下,也算给

Your comment on condensed matter problem is not accurate.
It is not about Fourier transformation per se.
It is about the size of Hilbert space.
For instance, a repulsive Hubbard model of 100 electrons
on a 50x50 perfect lattice is very hard to solve.
What Fourier transformation does in a lot of problem
is to block diagonalize the problem so that you can
dramatically reduce the Hilbert space size of those
blocks. This can only be realized in a very limited problems.

or any other molecular systems. I don't want to assert that condensed
matter problems are harder than protein or the other way around.
That would be comparing apple to orange.
I merely pointed out the statement your made about fourier transformation
in condensed matter physics is not accurate.
In most strongly correlated problems, fourier transformation does NOT
reduce the problem at all. Unfortunately, those are the hard probl

When you make such a comment on a field you know absolutely nothing about,
that comment is equivalent to gibberish to me which I will ignore. However,
regarding your second comment, as a matter of fact, many string theorists
are currently applying ideas of string theory to condensed matter physics.
If you were aware of some of the recent developments in condensed matter
theory, you would have known that string theory has played an important role.

You really know condensed matter physics? That's an important question you
need to think about. All your comments, especially 'idiot', should be
applied on yourself.
Did I say I know string theory? I didn't. I do know some decent people
switched from string theory/high energy theory to theoretical condensed
matter physics and did very good job. But please forget your string theory

I have no any problem with string theory or people working on string theory.
Period. I greatly respect this field and please do not misinterpret it.
Talking about theories, I even do not buy a lot of ideas that 'conventional'
condensed matter physists threw out. So it is really unnecessary to be
pissed.
In the end, may I humbly ask if condensed matter thoery will boost the
development of string theory because of the universality of every thing?

insult to string theory. all I know is that there is some application of
classical GR to condensed matter physics. sometimes with a little one loop
correction taken into account.
it is fair to say that even AdS/CFT didn't help us understand much about
strings themselves so far -- all we've learned is free strings, essentially

郑上游教授目前在新加坡南洋理工大学任教,就职于物理及应用物理系。从2012年8月
开始,他的课题组有两个博士生名额开始招收,希望有志于Soft Condensed Matter
Physics, Single Molecule Physics, Biophysics等方面研究的博士生申请他的科研组
。博士生会有全额的奖学金资助。有相关研究经历的博士后,也欢迎申请他的课题组。
此课题组有一个特别的交流计划,博班期间,博士生将去宾夕法尼亚大学或哈佛大学与
郑教授前老板进行3〜6月的研究。
南洋理工大学这些年在飞速进步, 特别是工程及物理学院, 科研已具有非常高的水平。
