lifetime fitness是另外一家本地新开的，在gateway drive，更新更大，但只有一处
gym。

在Columbia上班，基本上是在整个Howard County选住处，选的时候得看更详细的社区
划分。总的来说，是上面fryking说的情况，很多社区环境很好，但不便宜。

1. Ellicott city (图书馆附近的house？是HCLS的那个么？）
2. Colubmia的King's contrivance
3. North Laurel的Hammont elementry附近 （房源感觉不多啊）
请大家点评一下？我们还有一个minior的考虑是，我LD希望还能继续坐commuter bus上
班，所以能到columbia那几个park and ride方便点最好（主要是Columbia mall和
snowden river pwy）

但不用换车，比自己开车去DC舒服。
maple lawn是个很好很漂亮的社区，街对面就有去DC的bus。比住在columbia downtown
去DC省时间。 |

住在columbia或者ellicott city
现在看了这么几个小学，光从网上查到的数据看，不太容易判断
1.Clemens Crossing，10分，在columbia，小学排名49，9.6%的Asian，14.3%的
African American，10.4%的Hispanic。高中是Atholton HS，排名10
2.Centennial Lane，10分，在Ellicott City，小学排名69，33.8%的Asian，4.7%的
African American，4.7%的Hispanic。高中是Centennial HS排名12
3.Northfield，10分，在Ellicott City，小学排名48，25.2%的Asian，3.8%的African
American，3.6%的Hispanic。高中是Centennial HS排名12
第一个学校和周围可选的房子总体看起来还可以，不过黑人比例比较高，不知道周围住

上班时间，不管是295，395还是495，DC的traffic简直就是变化莫测，有的时候大白青
天的搞不清楚就堵的一塌糊涂，要堵上了，2个小时从columbia到reagan都不一定搞得
定。
行李不多的话，送到Silver Spring，坐地铁吧。如果行李多，建议至少提前预留2个小
时在路上。不然堵在路上了，那个抓狂 |

弟和我都是有小娃的人，都被领导限制得死死的，每周一次，每次九点前必须回家。。
所以钓鱼基本上就选离家近的小湖。前两天看见马里兰的兄弟找巴弟问钓点，我就说说
我知道小湖的情况吧。我觉得新手开始练手，如果只想掉bluegill 等小鱼，任何一个
离你最近的水域都可以，浮漂小钩挂蚯蚓，先找找上鱼的感觉，看 大S的新手岸钓指南
选购器材，Walmart搞一套便宜的combo。如果想学习钓鲈鱼，看willybass 的惊涛小
论系列。
centennial lake 是Howard county 最热门的钓点之一，水质好，large mouth bass
资源是附近湖比较好的，其中九到十一寸的bass 是over abundance，适合新手树立信
心。夏天湖南岸的荷花，树下，春天东岸的石头都是大嘴出没的地方。需要注意的是这
个湖是trophy bass policy，9-11寸大嘴鼓励拿走，12-15寸不能拿，15寸以上能拿两
条。这个湖周末人很多，活动也多，所以最好是钓早，虽然公园写的是八点开门，夏天

月初我们去的是OREGON,追随着CLARK AND LEWIS的脚步, 我们来到了Columbia River

Cmu将要面试，nyu 还没有消息
MIT: 新项目，而且最贵（7万!!）, 说是给mit本科多读一年用的，而且基本上就是给
mba 的finance课程， 不知道如果不是mit本科的是不是没有必要花这个钱。 不过mit
sloan的名字的确挺让我流口水的。
Columbia: 听说今年工作很难找，没几个人找到工作。所以也不太想去。
UChicago：感觉去了芝加哥，也就只可能到时候毕业去小的trading firm, 而且貌似今
年发了很多ad, 感觉有点水。
Cornell：1.5年的有点不喜欢，由于已经有了一个master,不想再花那么多时间。

目前刚刚被Duke Master Econ录取，Columbia QMSS（Quantitative Methods in
Social Sciences Master）的也挺有希望的，NYU也有点希望
现在想先定下决定，等到letter来了可以马上做决定。因为可以跟女友双飞Durham或是
NYC（她是PhD），所以希望读完这两个Program后可以留在同一个城市发展。先感谢大
家的帮助了！
最大的问题是，我个人的发展方向并不是很清晰。我个人经济压力不大，不急着毕业后
马上工作，也不求高薪。另外，本人虽然对经济学兴趣浓厚（国际金融、发展经济学、
行为经济学都很有趣），但是数学能力只属一般，需要下不少的苦工才能得到好的成绩
。所以，希望在Duke能够夯实我的数量/数学基础。Columbia的话，他们找工作的记录
很好，学习的东西也很实用。不少人毕业都去做Analyst了。问题是不知道中国人的就
业情况怎么样。
所以我目前的看法是这样的：

今天有点时间，给大家介绍几个不错学校的Distance Learning program, 全部都是理
工科。这类Distance Learning 最早的是Columbia 开始推广,慢慢衍生到现在Top 30
工科学校几乎有50%都提供或多或少的远程教学（有些类似国内的函授， 不过这个单词
好像带有些贬义). 最适合已经开始工作的不想放弃工作去读学位的同学，另外众多公
司以及政府部门为了鼓励员工提高学历也会提供 Tuition Reimbursement 的福利，有
些注重员工教育的公司甚至会提供 Fellowship.
最牛的当然是 MIT, 非常众多的课程被公布在网上让人学习，最好的部分是：全部免费
！当然，这些对想从MIT获得学位的没有任何帮助，但是你如果想复习一下大学微积分
，或者工作时用到了某些Signal processing technique, 都可以下载由世界顶尖教授
给你讲解的课程。

专业industrial engineering

Michigan 专业2 不过地理有点偏，不知那是不是更偏向制造业
1、都是30credits的master，目前不打算读phd,想找工作，所以觉得NYU的地理位置是
不是很重要？
2、哥大的工科似乎。。。哪位指点一下，那的industrial & operation engineering
究竟如何？另外我申到的是偏production,manufacture,sevice的方向，似乎读得人很
少阿，能转吗？
3、Michigan那听说能turn a person into a monk，有哪位了解吗？现在偏向Columbia
还有个原因是觉得这里应该更活跃更丰富多彩，个人比较看重life style,高人指点阿~~
